Chemist Lab Technician

Job Purpose:

To conduct chemical analysis of municipal solid waste, leachate, compost, and related materials to ensure compliance with environmental standards and support waste processing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform physical and chemical analysis of:
• Municipal solid waste samples
• Compost and organic waste
• Leachate and wastewater
• Soil and air (if required)
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations such as:
• CPCB / SPCB norms
• Solid Waste Management Rules
• Monitor parameters like
• pH, moisture content, calorific value
• Heavy metals, COD, BOD, TDS, etc.
• Maintain laboratory instruments
• Calibration, troubleshooting, and upkeep
• Prepare and maintain
• Lab reports, test records, and documentation
• Daily, weekly, and monthly analysis reports
• Support operations team in
• Waste segregation quality
• Composting process monitoring
• RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) quality checks
• Ensure safety and compliance in lab operations:
• Chemical handling protocols
• Waste disposal as per norms
• Assist in audits and inspections:
• Internal audits
• Regulatory authority visits

Qualifications

• Education:
• B.Sc / M.Sc in Chemistry / Environmental Science
• Experience:
• 2-3 years in laboratory testing, preferably in waste management, environmental labs, or related industries

Key Skills:

• Strong knowledge of:
• Analytical chemistry
• Environmental testing standards
• Familiarity with instruments like
• Spectrophotometer
• Gas Chromatography (GC) (preferred)
• pH meter, TDS meter
• Understanding of
• Composting processes
• Waste-to-energy concepts (good to have)
• Good documentation and reporting skills
• Basic computer skills (MS Excel, reporting tools)

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience in MSW plants, composting units, or recycling facilities
• Knowledge of environmental regulations in India
• Attention to detail and accuracy in analysis
• Ability to work in field + lab environment
