It’s how we nurture new subscribers, convert first-time buyers into loyal customers, and keep our community educated, engaged, and coming back. We’re looking for an Email Marketing Lead to own this channel end-to-end and take it to the next level: deeper segmentation, stronger conversion, smarter lifecycle automation, and measurable revenue growth.
This is a high-impact role for an operator who has done this before at scale: someone who has driven meaningful revenue from email at 8-figure D2C brands and knows exactly what it takes to build a best-in-class program.
Role Summary
Reporting to the E-commerce Manager, the Email Marketing Lead is responsible for the strategy, execution, and performance of all email and SMS communications at Real Mushrooms.
You’ll own the full lifecycle: from welcome and post-purchase flows to campaign sends, re-engagement, win-back, and subscription retention.You’ll build sophisticated segmentation strategies, deploy high-converting campaigns, and continuously test your way to better results. You’ll collaborate closely with our Content Marketing Manager, Ecommerce Manager, and design team to ensure every email reflects our brand voice and drives toward clear business outcomes.
This is a hands-on role. You’ll be in Klaviyo daily building flows, segmenting audiences, briefing design, writing and optimizing copy, and reporting on performance. You will leverage AI tools to move faster and smarter.
Your Mission: To transform email into Real Mushrooms’ most profitable, personalized, and predictable growth channel. You will drive revenue through precise segmentation, conversion-focused creative, and rigorous performance analysis, while strengthening customer relationships at every stage of the funnel.
Key Responsibilities
Email Strategy & Lifecycle Marketing
- Own the end-to-end email marketing strategy across acquisition, conversion, retention, and win-back.
- Design, build, test, and optimize lifecycle flows (welcome, browse/cart/checkout abandonment, post-purchase, replenishment, subscription, re-engagement, win-back, VIP).
- Plan and execute the weekly/monthly campaign calendar across product launches, promotions, educational series, and brand storytelling.
- Map every email touchpoint to a specific stage of the D2C customer journey, with a clear conversion or engagement goal.
- Own the subscription program performance and create a clear path to incentivize acquisition and retention.
Segmentation & Personalization
- Build and maintain advanced segmentation strategies based on behavior, purchase history, product affinity, lifecycle stage, engagement, and predictive signals.
- Develop dynamic content and personalized experiences that speak directly to the recipient; no more one-size-fits-all sends.
- Maintain list hygiene, deliverability health, sender reputation, and compliance (CAN-SPAM, CASL, GDPR).
Conversion Copy & Creative Direction
- Write or edit subject lines, preview text, and body copy that convert across every funnel stage: top-of-funnel education, mid-funnel consideration, and bottom-of-funnel purchase.
- Partner with the design team to brief, review, and iterate on email creative; ensure every send reflects the Real Mushrooms brand voice and visual identity.
- Apply proven D2C copywriting frameworks (hooks, objection handling, social proof, urgency, clarity of offer) to every campaign and flow.
- Develop and maintain messaging hierarchies for different customer segments and product lines.
Analytics, Testing & Optimization
- Own email KPIs: revenue, placed-order rate, click-through, conversion rate, LTV contribution, list growth, deliverability, and revenue per recipient.
- Build and maintain dashboards; deliver weekly and monthly performance reporting with clear insights and next actions.
- Run a continuous testing roadmap (subject lines, creative, copy, offers, send times, segments, flow logic) and document learnings.
- Identify underperforming flows and campaigns, diagnose root causes, and execute improvements.
AI-Enabled Execution
- Leverage AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Klaviyo AI, image generation, etc.) to accelerate ideation, copy drafting, segmentation analysis, A/B test design, and reporting.
- Build and document AI-assisted workflows that increase output quality and velocity without sacrificing brand voice.
- Stay current on emerging AI tools and email best practices; bring new ideas to the team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with the Content Marketing Manager on campaign themes, editorial alignment, and integrated storytelling.
- Collaborate with the E-commerce Manager on promotional calendars, site experience, and funnel conversion.
- Brief and collaborate with internal and external designers to produce high-performing, on-brand email creative.
- Support major campaigns (Black Friday, Birthday Sale, product launches) with email strategy, timelines, and execution.
Tools You’ll Use

- Figma / Canva – design review and collaboration
- PostPilot – direct mail coordination with email lifecycle
- Typeform – quiz and lead generation integrations
- Google Analytics / Shopify Analytics – cross-channel performance
- Slack / Google Workspace – internal & external collaboration
Requirements
- 5+ years of email marketing experience, with a proven track record managing email as a primary revenue channel for 8-figure D2C brands.
- Expert-level proficiency in Klaviyo (or equivalent enterprise ESP), including flow building, advanced segmentation, dynamic content, and deliverability management.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deploy converting email sequences across every stage of the D2C sales funnel: acquisition, conversion, retention, and reactivation.
- Strong conversion copywriting skills; able to write subject lines and body copy that drive measurable revenue lift.
- Analytical fluency; comfortable working with performance data, building reports, diagnosing problems, and translating insights into action.
- Balanced creative and analytical instincts. Be equally at home briefing a designer and interrogating a cohort report.
- Working fluency with AI tools to accelerate execution, and a point of view on how AI should (and shouldn’t) be used in lifecycle marketing.
- Experience briefing and collaborating with designers (internal or external) to produce high-performing, on-brand creative.
- Strong project management and self-direction; comfortable owning a channel end-to-end in a remote environment.
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
Nice to Have
- Experience in wellness, natural health, supplements, or functional mushrooms.
- Background in subscription-based D2C ecommerce.
- Experience with SMS marketing platforms (Attentive, Postscript, or Klaviyo SMS).
- Familiarity with CDP and predictive analytics tools.
- Experience with direct mail retargeting (e.g., PostPilot) integrated with email lifecycle.
- Experience training or mentoring junior marketers.
