Position Overview

The Accounting Manager is a key member of the Finance team and will be responsible for the accounting function for the entire company, both in Canada and the USA. The Accounting Manager reports directly to the CFO.

Role Mission

The mission of the Accounting Manager is to help FÜM achieve its vision by providing accurate financial information to support business decision making, and ensure the Company is compliant with government and other requirements in both Canada and the USA.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Accounting Manager:

  • Successfully insourcing the (QBO) accounting function that currently resides with a third party service provider.
  • Support Füm’s rapid growth.
  • Support the expansion into retail sales. Füm recently began selling its product to retail stores in Texas, and this will expand further. The Accounting Manager is responsible to design and implement the accounting processes to support retail sales, including the integration of Salesforce into QBO.
  • Monitor the various feeds into QBO from our direct to consumer platforms, and expand those as needed.
  • Continuously strive to make the information in QBO as current and complete as possible.
  • Ensure expenses incurred are legitimate while keeping formal approval processes to a minimum. This requires a growing understanding of the supplier and service provider relationships and the patterns in the expenses to identify unusual items and follow up as is appropriate.
  • Continuously streamline accounting and finance processes.
  • Proactively identify issues and perform analysis to identify causes.
  • Contribute to reports and dashboards evaluating performance and supporting initiatives.
  • Füm has not yet been subjected to financial statement audits, but will be in the near future. The Accounting Manager, together with the CFO, will be responsible for successful financial statement audits.
  • Help setup and create financial systems for company growth including ERPs.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Data Quality: Ensure our accounting records contain accurate, complete, and consistent data.
  • Timeliness of Information: Ensure our accounting records are as up to date as possible to support weekly and monthly meetings of the executive with up-to-date information.
  • Ensure Füm is compliant with various government and other regulations and requirements in both Canada and the USA. This includes income and other taxes, sales tax, payroll remittances, worker’s compensation and similar vehicles in other jurisdictions.
  • Ensure that our financial partners periodically receive adequate and reliable financial information as required

Proficiencies

  • 5+ years of working experience as an accounting manager or controller for a company with operations in both Canadian and the USA.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of financial statement audit requirements. Experience overseeing an audit process, and driving that all the way to completed financial statements.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial reporting.
  • Good understanding of income and sales tax laws in both Canada and the USA.
  • Proficient with business tools including Google suite, Microsoft Office suite.Thorough understanding of Quickbooks and how to link in various information sources. Experience with ERP systems is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience setting up data feeds into QBO from a variety of sources.
  • Incredible organizational and time management skills. This role involves handling multiple deliverables with competing priorities, initiatives, and stakeholders simultaneously, and executing to completion in a timely manner.
  • You must be able to prioritize work efficiently with minimal supervision, and demonstrate flexibility as workloads fluctuate.
  • Attention to detail and great problem solving ability.
  • Able to identify what is inadequate in existing processes or available information, and then drive towards resolution.
  • A fundamental awareness that the accounting role exists to support the business.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Formal education in Accounting, Finance required; Accounting designation preferred.

Compensation

The compensation will be $90-100k annually plus additional personal & company performance-based bonuses.

Hours

It is expected that the responsibilities of this role be met, without hours being firmly set. Availability for team correspondence and meetings is Monday-Friday 08:00-16:00 MST.
