The Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO) is a unique labour-management alliance representing the men and women building critical infrastructure—roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, and new housing—across Ontario. We are dedicated to promoting excellence in the construction industry and fostering meaningful partnerships between labour, management, and government.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Public Affairs Manager, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening RCCAO’s public presence and policy impact. You will combine communications leadership with policy support to ensure RCCAO’s voice is clear, consistent, and influential across government, media, and industry stakeholders. This position reports to the Executive Director and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in both communications and government relations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications
- Develop and implement communication strategies to promote RCCAO’s priorities and initiatives
- Produce high-quality materials, including press releases, blogs, Q&A documents, and quarterly newsletters
- Manage social media channels (X and LinkedIn) with timely, engaging, and strategic content
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with media contacts
- Continuously identify opportunities to enhance RCCAO’s communications approach and public profile
Policy & Government Relations
- Draft policy materials such as position papers, deputation remarks, and government submissions
- Monitor and analyze issues relevant to RCCAO’s mandate and sector
- Support the development of partnerships with industry stakeholders and aligned organizations
- Contribute to advancing RCCAO’s advocacy priorities through research and strategic insight
Candidate Profile
You are a strategic thinker and self-starter who takes pride in producing high-quality work. You are flexible, collaborative, and ready to contribute wherever needed in a small office environment. Some travel within the province is required, so access to a vehicle is necessary.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of experience in public affairs, communications, government relations, or a related role
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively across formats
- Strong understanding of government processes and political acumen
- Proven ability to manage and grow social media platforms strategically
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret technical or industry-specific information
- Knowledge of the construction or infrastructure sector is an asset
- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Metricool is an asset
