PWO Canada is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier for auto manufacturers globally. We are one of five subsidiaries in the PWO AG Group, manufacturing lightweight metal components for the automotive industry.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the Process Engineer is to support and improve production processes in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This role works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to resolve manufacturing issues, investigate quality concerns, and drive continuous improvement on the shop floor.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
A key part of this role is supporting the investigation of internal and customer quality concerns, performing root cause analysis (8D), and helping guide production decisions when deviations occur. This is a hands-on role with strong interaction with production teams and opportunities to make a visible impact on manufacturing performance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience with root cause analysis and structured problem solving (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone).
- Basic understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings. Familiarity with quality tools such as PFMEA and control plans.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) or CAD software is an asset.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing / shop-floor environment.
Communication Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required for normal technical/business communication, both internally and externally.
- Must be able to use new technologies and various media to communicate effectively and efficiently with the headquarters, external institutions, systems suppliers, and customers.
- Strong computer skills are essential.
Nature and Length of Experience:
- 2–6 years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, production engineering, or quality engineering.
- Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing is an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support manufacturing processes for products in serial production.
- Troubleshoot production issues affecting quality, efficiency, and process stability.
- Implement process improvements to increase productivity and reduce waste.
- Lead or support investigations of customer and internal quality issues, including root cause analysis and 8D problem solving.
- Work closely with the Quality team to develop corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
- Evaluate production deviations and provide technical guidance on containment and temporary deviations based on product and customer requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and production performance.
- Support updates to process documentation, PFMEAs, and work instructions as processes evolve.
- Work closely with production supervisors, operators, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
- Support engineering changes and improvements to production processes.
- Maintain process documentation and work instructions.
- Provide guidance and training when new processes or improvements are implemented on the production floor.
