Salary/Wage: Piece Rate provided upon next steps (NOT EMPLOYMENT BASED POSITION)

A Protel Industries Telecommunications Technician is responsible for the installation and support of products related to networking, phones, etc. This positions priority will be to offer exceptional customer service while completing installs and repairs.

Requirements

  • Ability to or have a registered company with valid GST number
  • Valid work Safe BC coverage and commercial liability insurance
  • Criminal abstract background check
  • Maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract quarterly
  • Willing to travel if and when required
  • Prior experience in telecommunications and/or working in the field independently is an asset
  • Must be comfortable with computers, and able to handle various Windows-based applications Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair support for Phone, Internet, and TV transported over fiber/copper networks
  • Installation, termination, and testing of coax, fiber, CAT6
  • Responsible for the installation/commissioning of TV/Internet/Phone/Security Systems equipment
  • Installation and repair of CCTV cameras, CCTV monitoring systems, alarm/security panels, PIR and Window Sensors, Thermostat, smoke/ carbon monoxide sensor, low voltage wiring
  • Drive the high quality installation of Internet/TV/VOIP services over fiber/coaxial
  • Analyze and repair existing Internet/TV/VOIP service challenges
  • Discover new Internet/TV/VOIP service issues and create solutions before problems can become customer impacting
  • Finally and most importantly, you will engage in meaningful conversations with our customers, developing real relationships in which the trust you build can be leveraged to provide solutions for the connected homes of today
  • Install and repair aerial and underground telecommunications lines
  • Lift and carry loads up to 75lbs (34kg)
  • Pole climbing, transfers, and removals
  • Load and unload installation equipment
  • Perform fiber installation, changeouts, and repairs
  • Hang strand and fiber/cable via pole climbing
  • Conduct new builds and fiber transfers
  • Install and maintain lashing, grounding, anchor transfers, and strand building
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and at various heights
  • Climb utility poles using ladders and safety harnesses

Responsibilities

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Registered and valid GST number
  • Valid WorkSafeBC coverage and Commercial Liability Insurance
  • Clean Criminal Background Check
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and quarterly Driver’s Abstract
  • Willingness to work at heights & Fall Protection Training Certification
  • Physically able to lift 75lbs+ and work at heights
  • Willing to travel for out-of-town assignments if required
  • Experience in telecommunications or fieldwork preferred
  • Proficient with Windows-based software and digital tools

  • Experience with consumer electronics, network devices, and home technology systems
  • Strong understanding of network technologies, and components
  • Ability to educate and communicate technical information clearly to customers
  • Strong teamwork and independent work capabilities
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical thinking, and time management
  • Normal color vision (required for working with color-coded wiring)
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Fluent in English (additional languages an asset)

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
