We’re searching for someone who has a genuine interest in technology and security who will be exposed to all areas of the security domain, as our projects are varied both in nature, size, and location. You will be a member of a team that manages IT security on behalf of customers to reduce the impact of security incidents and system compromises. This team provides security monitoring, event investigation, event analysis, and countermeasure proposals.

What you will do

1. Event Detection

Follow an established, documented process for event detection including but not limited to:

  • Receipt of Security Alerts, (and Operational Health Alerts from Security Devices) from monitored devices and associated technology.
  • Acknowledgement of receipt of the event.
  • Opening new service desk tickets or update existing tickets in order to track event handling through its lifecycle to resolution and closure.
  • Assignment of the event ticket to the appropriate owner.

2. Event Filtering

  • Follow established process for identification of events that require filtering.
  • Document requests for event filtering in the service desk ticket.
  • Assignment of the event ticket to the appropriately defined resource.
  • In the event of client request for filtering of certain event types, follow the established process for completing that request.

3. Event Investigation

  • Follow an established process for the purposes or collecting relevant data and performing the necessary level of analysis on that data.
  • Determine relationships between the event, client services, technologies and previous tickets.
  • Determine if the relationships warrant an increase in severity, and subsequent reprioritization in escalation.
  • Document findings in the service desk ticket as they are discovered.

4. Event Escalation

  • Follow an established process for transmitting event investigation data to the appropriate point of contact, whether that point of contact is an external client, or an internal resource.
  • Report recurring problems and issues discovered during the course of your duties.
  • Provide action plans detailing specifics of:

  • What the event indicates (Event Description)
  • Why it is important for the client (What the potential Risks are to the business)
  • What actions the client can take to remediate the current event, and prevent future instances of this event

5. Event closure

  • Follow established process to ensure that resolution criteria are met before closing tickets.

We would love to hear from you if you have

  • A Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a SOC environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:

1. 1. UNIX, AIX & Solaris

2. Linux

3. Windows Server Operating Systems

4. Internet Connectivity and Protocols (TCP/IP)

5. Wireless Networking

6. Network architecture best practices

7. Security Operations Centre/Information Protection Centre/Computer Incident Response Centre

8. Enterprise Security Information Management systems

9. VPN Communication Protocols and Switches/Routers (basic configuration)

10. Network/System Intrusion Detection or Prevention Systems

  • Understanding of basic security concepts: Principle of Least Access, Compartmentalization etc.
  • Firewall (configuration knowledge)
  • Asset Management, Security threat and attack countermeasures
  • Ability to conduct in-depth forensic analytical studies and investigations
  • Ability to earn the Security+ certification within 3 months of hiring, if not already completed
