Job Description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator with strong expertise in Oracle (including RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and GoldenGate) and Microsoft SQL Server. The ideal candidate will manage enterprise-scale databases, ensure high availability and security, optimize performance, and support mission-critical production systems with 24×7 readiness. Experience with AWS RDS is a plus.
Responsibilities
Oracle Database Administration
- Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle Database and Grid Infrastructure software.
- Apply quarterly PSU/RU patches for Grid and Oracle Homes, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Configure, maintain, and monitor standby databases using Data Guard (physical/logical).
- Implement and tune RAC (Real Application Clusters) and administer RAC environments.
- Manage ASM and storage capacity planning; maintain tablespaces under threshold to prevent incidents.
- Monitor database performance, conduct AWR/ASH analysis, and implement optimization strategies.
- Ensure database security and compliance (RBAC, auditing, encryption, CIS/organizational standards).
- Perform regular backups and recovery (RMAN) and validate restore procedures.
- Set up Oracle GoldenGate (uni-directional and bi-directional), maintain synchronization with source/targets, troubleshoot lag/conflicts, and implement best practices.
- Collaborate with developers on schema design, indexing, partitioning, and query tuning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents promptly with solid root-cause analysis (RCA).
- Develop and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and standards, and contribute to automation.
- Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades (in-place and cross-platform).
Microsoft SQL Server Administration
- Install, configure, and manage SQL Server instances across environments (DEV/QA/PROD).
- Monitor system health and performance (wait stats, blocking, I/O, memory, CPU), and tune queries and indexes.
- Ensure high availability, performance, sustainability, and security (e.g., Always On AGs, clustering, backups, TDE).
- Analyze and resolve production issues in real time; provide actionable solutions and preventive measures.
- Refine and automate regular processes (backups, index maintenance, integrity checks), track issues, and document changes.
- Assist developers with query optimization and schema refinement; review execution plans.
- Provide 24×7 support for critical production systems; perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployments after hours.
- Respond to alerts and incidents promptly; collaborate with L1/L2 and cross-functional teams for escalations.
Requirements
Must-Have Skills
- Oracle DBA: Installation, patching (RU/PSU), RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, performance tuning (AWR/ASH/ADDM).
- Oracle GoldenGate: Setup (uni/bidirectional), monitoring, troubleshooting conflicts/lag, and best practices.
- SQL Server DBA: Installation, configuration, HA/DR (Always On/Clustering), backups/restores, performance tuning (wait stats, indexing), security.
- Strong backup & recovery expertise across Oracle and SQL Server.
- Solid understanding of database security, auditing, encryption (TDE), and compliance.
- Proficiency with Linux/Unix (for Oracle) and Windows (for SQL Server).
- Scripting for automation: Shell/PowerShell (Python is a plus).
- Experience with monitoring tools (OEM/Cloud Control, GoldenGate Monitor, SQL Sentry, SolarWinds, Dynatrace, Prometheus/Grafana, etc.).
- Excellent incident management, RCA, and documentation skills.
- Willingness to participate in on-call/24×7 support rotations.
Nice-to-Have
- AWS RDS hands-on (PostgreSQL/Oracle/SQL Server) and cloud operations.
- Experience with Exadata, PDB/CDB (Multitenant), and Data Pump.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes operators for databases (optional).
- Exposure to DevOps/CI-CD for database changes (Liquibase/Flyway).
- Observability integrations (CloudWatch, ELK, OpenTelemetry).
- Disaster Recovery drills and BCP planning experience.
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- Preferred certifications: Oracle OCP/OCE, OCI, Microsoft Certified: Azure/SQL Server, AWS Associate/Professional.
