Awake Overnight In-Home Personal Support Staff

Position Overview

Are you an experienced caregiver who takes pride in providing attentive, high-quality care—even when the rest of the world is asleep? We are seeking a dependable Awake Overnight Personal Support Staff who understands that overnight care is not a passive role, but a critical, hands-on responsibility.

This position involves providing one-on-one care in a private home setting for an individual who is fully dependent on support staff for all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). The ideal candidate is attentive, compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to remain alert and engaged throughout the entire shift.

A Day (Night) in the Life

As an Awake Overnight Personal Support Staff, your shift is centered around safety, monitoring, and hands-on care.

Throughout the night, you will:

• Continuously monitor breathing, positioning, and overall well-being
• Reposition regularly to promote proper breathing and prevent pressure sores
• Perform frequent brief changes and hygiene care
• Observe for signs of distress, aspiration, congestion, or behavioral changes
• Maintain a calm, quiet, and supportive environment

During downtime (while still actively monitoring), you will:

• Complete laundry and light housekeeping tasks
• Prepare and reset care areas for the next day
• Document detailed shift notes and observations

This role requires constant awareness, attentiveness, and readiness to respond at any moment.

Key Responsibilities

Overnight Monitoring & Health Safety

• Actively monitor vitals, breathing patterns, and positioning
• Identify and respond to any health or safety concerns
• Provide clear and detailed written and verbal reports

Positioning & Comfort Care

• Reposition throughout the night to ensure safety and comfort
• Prevent pressure sores and support proper alignment

Incontinence & Hygiene Care

• Perform overnight brief changes as needed
• Assist with toileting and maintain cleanliness

Daily Grooming Support

• Assist with bedtime and hygiene routines

Light Housekeeping

• Laundry (wash, dry, fold, put away)
• Dishwashing and maintaining clean care areas
• General organization and sanitation

Mandatory Awake Policy (Strictly Enforced)

This is a fully awake position. Staff must remain alert and engaged for the entire shift.

• Sleeping or dozing is strictly prohibited
• Creating a sleep environment (lying down, lights off, etc.) is not allowed
• Failure to comply may result in immediate termination

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience working with individuals with disabilities required
• Compassionate, patient, and professional demeanor
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal reporting required)
• Ability to remain attentive and responsive overnight
• Strong time management and organizational skills

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and transfer at least 80 lbs
• Ability to bend, squat, stoop, and stand for extended periods
• Capable of completing physical caregiving and household tasks

Education & Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current CPR & First Aid Certification
• Must pass a background check and physical exam
• Professional references required
