Job Description
As an experienced UK Accountant and Bookkeeper, your role will involve managing bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and year-end accounts for a diverse portfolio of UK clients. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing quarterly VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, managing monthly payroll processing including PAYE, pensions, and CIS deductions, maintaining accurate bookkeeping using QuickBooks/Xero, reconciling accounts, and resolving discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review quarterly VAT returns, ensuring HMRC compliance.
- Manage monthly payroll processing, including PAYE, pensions, and CIS deductions.
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping using QuickBooks/Xero, reconciling accounts.
- Prepare financial statements under FRS102 & FRS105, including adjustments for accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
- Analyze Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets, identifying variances and key insights.
- Prepare and file Corporation Tax returns (CT600) accurately.
- Handle ad-hoc accounting tasks like CIS returns, journal entries, and client queries.
- Collaborate with partners to finalize accounts and ensure timely submissions.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential
- Proven experience in a UK accounting practice (2+ years preferred).
- Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT, payroll, and corporation tax.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Xero.
- Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and financial adjustments.
- Part-qualified or fully qualified ACCA/ACA.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Auto Entry, Iris Elements, BrightPay, or Accountancy Manager.
- Experience with FRS102/FRS105 reporting.
- Ability to work with incomplete records and reconstruct accounts.
