PRESS is seeking a dedicated Assistant Nurse Manager to join a small care team in North Vancouver. The candidate can be a registered or an unregistered nurse - either an RN or an RPN.
Working within a client-centered model of care, the Assistant Nurse Manager (along with the Nurse Manager) will provide medical leadership, including training, direction, supervision for the other care team members, plus direct medical monitoring, assessments, judgements, interventions, and care coordination for a 20-year-old young adult, with a multi-domain complex health profile, who lives in a personal home in the community.
Working in a salaried management position, the Assistant Nurse Manager will divide work duties and call hours with the Nurse Manager. This job is classified as hybrid, requiring a minimum 3 days of in-person attendance at the work site per week.
In this role, your primary focus will be on improving the health, the overall functioning, and the quality of life of the young adult. This position requires a blend of past complex care experience, the ability to learn new client-specific knowledge and skills, and the ability to work in ongoing collaboration with the young adult, their family, the rest of the care team, health care providers, therapists, and other community partners.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in caring for individuals with multiple medical conditions, including neurological disorders, cognitive impairment, and associated emotional/behavioural issues.

Key Duties
- Assist with the development, implementation, and regular updates of the care plan, health care plan, the medical protocols, and the personal care plan - all tailored to effectively and safely meet the client’s individual needs.
- Participate in the development of workplace best practice standards and instructions that support the care team members to provide the client effective and safe care and development support.
- Hire care providers and provide initial orientation and ongoing education, training and staff skill development. Educate them on the client’s care and rehabilitation needs, the medical conditions, the risks to the client, and the signs and symptoms to monitor and report.
- When appropriate, train and delegate nursing tasks, and supervise the implementation of those tasks.
- Manage medication administration processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with safety protocols.
- Provide performance evaluations to staff to maintain a high standard of client care.
- Provide direct nurse medical monitoring and assessment of the client’s regular and changeable signs and symptoms, and support the efficient identification of neurological, endocrine and/or other health system condition deterioration.
- Coordinate case management efforts, including ensuring appropriate medical interventions, referral to physicians or others, and emergency room medical assessment and interventions, when indicated.
- Support the psychosocial aspects of the client’s care by assessing and correctly interpreting their emotional/behavioural presentations, and by applying specific approaches, responses and strategies to support the client’s emotional and behavioural stability and participation in daily activities. Support the other team members to do the same.
- Support the care team to maintain clear, timely, and accurate client records, including documentation of all signs and symptoms, medication administration, interventions, and incidents.
- Regularly collaborate with the PRESS' administrators, the care team staff, the client's family, physicians, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team members to support the provision of effective and safe care.
- Work within external Community Living BC, VCH, and internal PRESS policies and procedures, professional college professional practice standards (BCCNM) and accreditation requirements (CARF).
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program (RN or RPN).
- Completion of a Bachelor's degree or higher degree is preferred.
- Past or current registration with the Nursing College in British Columbia (BCCNM) or a Nursing College from another jurisdiction is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years' work experience as a nurse is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience working with clients with complex medical profiles is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years' case management experience is preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a managerial, supervisory and administrative role is required.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Teams) and electronic documentation systems is required.
Certifications
- Standard First Aid and CPR C certification is required. (Can be obtained after hiring.)
- MANDT System and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification is required. (Can be obtained after hiring.)
- A criminal record check (CRC) by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to allow work with vulnerable adults is required. This will need be obtained and paid for by PRESS during the hiring process.)
- A driver's license and an acceptable driver's abstract (obtained from ICBC) and access to your own car is required.
Additional Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- Experience working with clients with brain injury and other neurological disorders with resultant functional impairment of various body systems (i.e. dysautonomia, hydrocephalus with shunt treatment, adrenal insufficiency, and/or other endocrine disorders) is preferred.
- Knowledge of the psychosocial dynamics associated with brain injury cognitive impairment (intellectual disability) is preferred
- Experience working within trauma-informed and emotionally responsive care frameworks is preferred.
- Experience working in long-term care, assisted living, home-care, group home, and school settings, in the community is preferred.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience, is required, preferably in a healthcare role.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Proven ability to adopt approaches that support a collaborative, strengths-based team, and that foster a positive, respectful, and supportive work environment is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate empathic and compassionate approach to the client, build rapport and relationships with others in a multidisciplinary team, and the ability to remain flexible in approaches and responses to achieve better outcomes is required
- Ability to work well independently and within a small team is required.
- Experience in developing individualized care plans, health care plans and protocols is required.
- Experience in educating, training, and delegating care to others care providers is required.
- Strong clinical assessment skills, excellent organizational abilities, and high attention to detail are required.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required.

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
