Job Description
Position Summary
Creates 3D models, textures, animations, and visual assets for training simulations supporting CASCOM proponent schools. Works under the direction of the Senior 3D Simulation Developer to produce complex and simple simulation components that meet Army training standards. Integrates completed assets into game engine environments and ensures they are optimized for web, XR, and AI-model deployment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create 3D models, textures, and animations using COTS 3D modeling software, ensuring low polygon counts and optimized texture atlases suitable for real-time rendering across multiple platforms.
- Develop scenery assets, character models/avatars, environmental objects, and props for incorporation into complex and simple simulations.
- Produce High Definition (HD) renders for cut scenes and visual media used in training products.
- Export assets as .fbx files and integrate them into Unity 3D, GODOT, or Unreal game engines without proprietary plug-ins.
- Implement basic scripting for custom interactions, animations, and user interface elements within the assigned game engine.
- Incorporate sound effects, lighting, and post-processing to enhance simulation fidelity and user experience.
- Correct all technical and content issues identified during Government reviews and prepare assets for final delivery.
- Collaborate with the development team to meet production milestones for complex simulations (~693 man-hours each) and simple simulations (~260 man-hours each).
- Maintain organized project files including all 2D/3D assets, .max files, audio, video, and engine-specific project files.
- Support In-Process Reviews (IPRs) with technical input on asset development status and quality.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum four (4) years of experience with COTS 3D modeling software (e.g., Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, ZBrush, or equivalent).
- Minimum four (4) years of experience with Unity 3D, GODOT, or Unreal gaming engines.
- Demonstrated ability to create optimized 3D assets for real-time applications with low polygon counts.
- Experience with character modeling, rigging, and animation for interactive applications.
- Working knowledge of .fbx export pipelines and texture atlas creation.
- Ability to pass a military installation security background check and obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must complete Anti-Terrorism (AT) Level 1 Training within 10 calendar days of contract start.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in 3D Animation, Game Art, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Experience creating training content for military or government clients.
- Proficiency with XR (Extended Reality) content development.
- Experience with physically-based rendering (PBR) workflows and material creation.
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git, Perforce) in game development pipelines.
Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
