Jr. System Administrator

About the Role

We are looking for a Junior System Administrator with a strong focus on Linux (Ubuntu environments) to support and maintain our infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with servers, troubleshooting at the OS level, and gaining deeper exposure to production systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Ubuntu/Linux servers in development and production environments
• Monitor system health, performance, and uptime of Linux-based systems
• Manage users, groups, permissions, and access controls in Linux environments
• Perform system updates, patching, and security hardening
• Troubleshoot OS-level issues (CPU, memory, disk, processes, services)
• Work with system logs and debugging tools (journalctl, syslog, dmesg)
• Automate routine tasks using shell scripting (Bash)
• Manage file systems, disk partitions, and storage
• Assist in backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes
• Support basic networking tasks (SSH, firewall rules, ports, connectivity issues)
• Collaborate with developers and DevOps teams for deployments and issue resolution

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
• 1–2 years of hands-on experience with Linux systems (preferably Ubuntu)
• Strong understanding of:
• Linux command line and file system structure
• Process management and system services (systemd)
• Package management (apt, dpkg)
• Permissions and security basics
• Experience with SSH and remote server management
• Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, ports, firewalls)
• Familiarity with version control tools like Git

Preferred Skills

• Basic scripting experience in Bash or Python
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS EC2, Azure VMs, or GCP)
• Familiarity with containerization tools (Docker)
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack)
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines is a plus
