Job Description

PHS Canada is looking for a Design Specialist to join our Design team and strengthen our technical expertise in high-performance HVAC control systems. Reporting to the Design Supervisor, this position plays a key role in the design, documentation, and integration of control systems for HVAC and mechanical systems used in mission-critical environments such as data centers, biotechnology facilities, and pharmaceutical operations.

What You Bring To The Table

  • Design and develop sequences of operation for HVAC control systems in industrial and mission-critical applications.
  • Manage all engineering and instrumentation aspects of HVAC and related mechanical systems.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including submittals, testing procedures, network schematics, and P&ID layouts.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation and control components based on technical specifications and application requirements.
  • Coordinate design deliverables and schedules with internal engineering teams, project managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to clients and contractors, providing clear and accurate communication on control design and integration issues.
  • Ensure project designs align with budget, schedule, and performance targets.
  • Gather and organize data for seamless integration of control equipment into overall system architecture.

Essential Skills And Qualifications To Be Successful

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in HVAC controls, instrumentation, or industrial automation systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of communication protocols such as Ethernet, Modbus, and BACnet (serial and TCP/IP).
  • Proficiency with CAD-based design tools (AutoCAD or equivalent) and Microsoft operating systems.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot control system hardware and networks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in French; English proficiency is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to travel periodically (up to 10%) to engineering offices and project sites as required.
