We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Database Administrator to join our IT team in Langley, BC.
Reporting to the Manager, Database Admin, you will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of all on-premises and cloud-based databases, including their implementation, configuration, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance to ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing direct level 2 and 3 database support for development, QA, and production environments running on various versions of Oracle (19c, 23ai, RAC, Exadata), MS SQL Server (SQL 2008-2022), and MySQL.
- Providing all aspects of database support for Azure-based and in-house database infrastructure.
- Researching, recommending, and executing improvements to database environments to maximize efficiency, reliability, and performance.
- Performing database tuning and configuration to ensure optimum performance on all client databases.
- Planning and implementing database upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches.
- Using native and/or external tools, such as Oracle’s Enterprise Manager and SQL server Management Studio, to quickly pinpoint trouble spots and resolve performance issues.
- Designing and maintaining database backup and recovery strategies, including long-term retention strategy, redundancy plans, and backup encryption.
- Collaborating with other teams (Architecture, Development, Infrastructure) to develop database systems for new products or enhancements to existing systems.
- Sharing domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
- Providing expert level ETL and scripting to existing and new processes.
- Developing and maintaining server and database documentation.
You have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of IT work experience using database technologies.
- Experience and knowledge of Oracle in an enterprise environment, Microsoft SQL Server, Transact-SQL and PL/SQL, as well as both Linux and Windows operating systems.
- An understanding of database structures, principles, and best practices.
- Analytical skills for troubleshooting incidents and performing root cause analysis.
- Working knowledge of database table partitioning techniques and processes.
- An understanding of database encryption technologies and best practices.
- Solid understanding of operating system, Active Directory, and Network technologies.
- Rigor in maintaining high code quality, database orchestration, and other engineering best practices.
- Knowledge of Spark, PostgreSQL, Hadoop, DataBricks, Azure, NoSQL, Snowflake, and Distributed systems is an asset
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification in Oracle database an asset.
