Paramount is hiring a Newswriter/Producer at CBS Los Angeles, based in Studio City, to join the KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV newsroom full-time. About the Role
The Newswriter/Producer works directly within the CBS LA newsroom, supporting and producing newscasts and cut-ins across two major market stations that feed content into the broader CBS News and Stations network, including the CBS News Streaming Network. Day-to-day, this person is in the control room alongside producers and managers, writing scripts, cutting video, building teases, and responding to live and breaking news as it develops. This is a Writers Guild of America position, and WGA membership is required.
Key Responsibilities
Write and produce daily newscasts for broadcast and streaming news distribution, filling in across shows and cut-ins as needed.
Craft scripts that integrate narration, sound bites, natural sound, and graphics into tight, accurate, broadcast-ready copy.
Edit video using newsroom editing systems to package stories that meet the production standards of a top-market duopoly operation.
Contribute to editorial meetings by pitching story ideas and helping shape the daily rundown with strong news judgment.
Write compelling teases and promos that perform across broadcast and OTT platforms, including the CBS News Streaming Network.
Monitor breaking news and operate effectively in a 24/7 newsroom environment, including overnight and weekend shifts as assigned.
What You Bring
A minimum of five years of newswriting and producing experience, preferably in a top 20 market broadcast news operation.
Hands-on experience with Avid iNEWS and the Grass Valley Edius editing system is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to line produce and write across multiple platforms, including social media and streaming news.
WGA membership or eligibility, as this is a covered Writers Guild of America position.
A track record of accurate, fair reporting under deadline pressure in live broadcast news production.
