Purpose
The SQL Developer plays a key role within the Enterprise Data & Analytics team by designing, developing, and optimizing SQL-based solutions that support data extraction, reporting, and analytical needs across the organization. This role builds efficient data processes, ensuring data quality, and enabling reliable insights for business stakeholders. The SQL Developer works closely with data engineers, analysts, and business units to deliver scalable, well‑structured, and high‑performing data assets.
Responsibilities
SQL Development & Data Processing
- Develops, tests, and maintains complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions to support data extracts, transformations, and reporting workloads.
- Builds automated data pipelines and repeatable processes for delivering analytic datasets and operational reporting.
- Performs query tuning and optimization to ensure high performance across large and complex datasets.
- Creates and maintains source‑to‑target mapping, data lineage documentation, and ensures data consistency across systems.
- Conducts data profiling, validation, and quality checks to ensure accuracy and completeness within the EDW and downstream datasets.
- Collaborates with data engineers to integrate SQL processes into broader ETL/ELT and data platform pipelines.
Reporting & Analytics Support
- Develops and supports reports, datasets, and semantic layers used by BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
- Works with business stakeholders to gather reporting and analytic requirements to translate into technical specifications.
- Ensures all reports and analytic outputs align with business definitions, KPIs, and governance standards.
- Troubleshoots reporting datasets, SQL logic, data issues, and performance bottlenecks.
- Conducts data profiling and quality checks across source systems and EDW layers.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Partners with data scientists, data engineers, analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions and AI-enhanced insights.
- Participates in the planning and execution of data initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members regarding SQL best practices and data modeling.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation for SQL code, data structures, business rules, and process flows.
Continuous Improvement
- Stays current with SQL best practices, database technologies, and performance‑tuning techniques.
- Recommends improvements to existing SQL code, data models, processes, and reporting frameworks.
- Participates in evaluating new tools and technologies that may enhance data processing or reporting efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of EDW development, SQL programming, and data integration.
- Strong proficiency in SQL.
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare business process and technology experience.
- Familiarity with iterative development methodologies (Agile).
- Experience with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS).
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse/Data Factory/SQL Databases, AWS Redshift).
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Spark MLlib).
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance best practices.
- Python development experience.
Work Environment
This position operates in a home or professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
