Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and structured professional to support high-functioning high school students, including those on the autism spectrum, in both academic progress and OSSD credit pathway monitoring.

This role bridges learning support, behaviour guidance, and academic tracking, ensuring students remain on track to successfully complete their high school credits.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Academic Support

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support during study periods
  • Break down assignments into manageable steps
  • Reinforce teacher instructions and expectations
  • Support completion of classwork, homework, and projects

2. Assessment & Evaluation Support

  • Administer academic diagnostics (Math, English, Science) under supervision
  • Observe and document:
  • Concept understanding
  • Application ability
  • Level of independence
  • Identify learning gaps and areas requiring support
  • Provide structured feedback to school leadership

3. OSSD Credit Monitoring (Support Role)

  • Track student progress toward course completion and credit accumulation

Maintain records of:

  • Completed assignments
  • Missed work
  • Assessment readiness
  • Support review of prerequisites (based on provided guidelines)
  • Flag risks related to:
  • Credit loss
  • Course difficulty mismatch
  • Incomplete coursework

(Note: Final academic decisions remain under school leadership/OCT supervision.)

4. Executive Function & Behaviour Support

  • Support students with:
  • Organization
  • Time management
  • Task initiation and completion
  • Use structured prompts and checklists
  • Maintain predictable routines for students
  • Provide redirection and focus support when needed

5. Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain weekly student progress logs
  • Provide structured updates to leadership on:
  • Academic progress
  • Behaviour patterns
  • Areas of concern
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure alignment of support strategies

Candidate Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in:
  • Autism & Behavioural Science
  • Psychology or related field
  • Experience working with:
  • High school students
  • Students with ASD/ADHD (preferred)
  • Basic understanding of:
  • Ontario high school system (OSSD structure, course levels U/M/C)
  • Academic expectations at secondary level

Strong skills in:

  • Organization and documentation
  • Communication and observation
  • Structured student support

Preferred Assets

  • Experience in school or tutoring environment
  • Familiarity with IEPs and accommodations
  • Ability to support Math and Science at basic high school level
  • Experience with behaviour strategies or ABA principles

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
