Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Machinist / Tool and Die maker to join our manufacturing team. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in managing projects from concept through to prototype completion.
You will work closely with our science and CAD teams to design and manufacture components, develop machining and fixturing strategies, and contribute to the assembly and testing of prototypes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture high-quality components and assemble prototypes and short production runs
- Interpret CAD/CAM files, engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions
- Program and edit G-code using MasterCAM and machine controllers
- Operate CNC and manual vertical mills and lathes
- Develop and build fixtures for new parts
- Inspect components and document part geometries
- Participate in prototype assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
- Assist in training team members on equipment setup and operation
- Identify and correct issues in drawings, materials, and routing processes
- Maintain equipment and uphold high standards of workmanship and safety
- Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, and related tools
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience and at least 2 years of manual machining experience
- Proficiency in reading and programming G-code
- Experience with Haas equipment (preferred)
- Experience with MasterCAM Software (preferred)
- Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Experience machining aluminum, steel, and plastics
- Ability to maintain tolerances of +/- 0.0005”
- Strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., MS Office)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (standing, bending, climbing)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment & Additional Information
- This is a full-time, on-site position located in Hampton, Ontario
- Approximately 5 weeks of vacation annually (plus statutory holidays, once accrued)
- Reliable transportation is required (no public transit available)
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided
