The HSM Regional Lead plays a key role in supporting the implementation, growth, and promotion of High Skills Major (HSM).

This role serves as both an advisor and advocate for students, while collaborating with schools, families, post-secondary institutions, and industry partners to provide meaningful, career-focused learning opportunities. Working closely with the EECD Career Pathways Division, the Youth Pathways Consultant, and school-based teams, the HSM Lead provides direct support to HSM students and helps guide effective program delivery across schools in their region/board.

Relevant Experience

• Experience with community-based or experiential learning
• Familiarity with career development, co-operative education, or sector-aligned programming
• Experience providing student support and advocacy
• Comfort using digital tools (e.g., Google Classroom, myBlueprint, virtual meeting platforms)
• Experience building relationships with employers, post-secondary institutions, and community organizations
• Experience working with school or program budgets, including tracking and reporting

Key Responsibilities:

• Student Support and Engagement
• Provide consistent support and communication with students primarily using digital and virtual tools (e.g. Google Classroom)
• Schedule in-person school visits where possible
• Support students in using myBlueprint for pathway planning and portfolio development
• Monitor and track student progress using the HSM checklist
• Support the completion of HSM checklists, student portfolio presentations, and exit interviews
• Promote and celebrate student and program success School Collaboration and Coordination
• Collaborate with school-based teams (administration, counsellors, subject teachers, Co‑operative Education (Co-op) teachers, Nova Scotia Works School Liaisons)
• Communicate with school staff to build awareness of HSM
• Support schools in developing processes that help with effective HSM implementation
• Provide schools with HSM resources, documents, and materials
• Work with Co-op teachers to identify HSM students and support HSM certificate requirements
• Promote and support summer sector program applications and interviews where appropriate
• Confirm the entry and tracking of HSM student data in PowerSchool Communication and Outreach
• Use a range of communication tools (virtual platforms, in‑school visits, newsletters, etc.) to keep students, families, and staff informed
• Build and maintain partnerships with post-secondary institutions, employers, and community organizations
• Support experiential learning opportunities with industry and community partners wherever possible Administration
• Monitor student enrolment data across HSM schools
• Support the management of the HSM program budget
• Work with the Youth Pathways Consultant (YPC) to identify funding opportunities available for student support
• Contribute to HSM research and program development
• Participate in professional learning and collaboration opportunities
• Attend scheduled meetings organized by EECD
• Provide reports to EECD as requested
