About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager/Operations Manager, the Registered Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Practice Assistant) participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient- or family-centered ethical care, ensuring the goals and needs of the patient are prioritized and individualized; prepares, packages and dispenses medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities include compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, physician order entry, working with automation, inventory control, medication reconciliation, and CIVA systems;
preparation of chemotherapy doses, distributing narcotics and participation in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
- Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSPR) required
- Active candidates pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within the Province of Nova Scotia will be considered if none meet the above qualification
- Pharmacy Practice Assistants may be considered if none meet the above qualification
- Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset
- Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy is an asset
- Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset
- Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping
- Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications; knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs
- Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
- Permanent part-time position; 15 hours biweekly
Compensation and Benefits
Registered Technician: $30.52 - $34.43 hourly
Pharmacy Practice Assistants: $25.37 - $30.20 hourly
