About Norwood Stone

Norwood Stone is a well-established stone fabrication and installation company serving the Northern Virginia and Washington DC metro area. We fabricate and install granite, quartz, and marble countertops for commercial and residential clients, including major national accounts. The company has operated for more than two decades with a consistent client base, stable revenue, and a lean, experienced team of approximately 28 employees.

We are 85% commercial and work with clients including data centers, government facilities, and multi-unit residential developers. We also operate a residential program through our Caesarstone partnership, serving IKEA, Lowe's, and select kitchen dealers.

The Opportunity

Our longtime Operations Manager of 23 years is retiring. This is not a role we are creating — it is a role we are replacing, and the person who held it has been an integral part of this operation.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end operations role. The right person will run the daily business: scheduling, estimating review, purchasing, customer relations, and production coordination. This is not a management-only position. You will be in the work every day.

If you want a role where you own the operation, have real autonomy, and build trust with an owner who respects and rewards loyalty — this is it. If you need layers of structure above you to feel comfortable, this is not the right fit.

What You Will DoDaily Operations

  • Process approved orders, assign installation dates, and sign off on all work orders. No job goes to fabrication without your initials.
  • Order materials through vendor and manufacturer portals including Caesarstone.
  • Review commercial job measurements against shop drawings, identify change orders and obtain customer sign-off before moving to production.
  • Review the production schedule with the production manager each afternoon for the two days ahead.
  • Price all estimates prepared by the estimating team. The estimator performs takeoffs — you apply final pricing before submission to the customer.
  • Manage material purchasing for commercial jobs, balancing lead times against cash flow timing.
  • Handle commercial customer communication throughout the day — project updates, schedule questions, material discussions, and bid conversations.

Scheduling and Field Coordination

  • Maintain the full installation and template schedule in Moraware, our scheduling and job management platform.
  • Apply routing logic to template technician schedules. Geographic efficiency is your responsibility.
  • Confirm that only security-cleared personnel are assigned to restricted job sites.
  • Coordinate early morning crew starts for commercial sites that require 5:00 AM or 6:00 AM arrivals.
  • Serve as the point of contact for field issues. When something goes wrong on a job site, you assess it and drive the resolution.

Compliance and Licensing

  • Maintain OSHA compliance including weekly safety meetings, daily floor walkthroughs, and documentation for audits.
  • Manage security clearance paperwork for employees working on restricted commercial job sites.
  • Coordinate certified payroll reporting for government work.
  • Oversee license renewals through BD Contractors, our licensing management service.

What You BringRequired

  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously without dropping anything.
  • Strong decision-making and negotiation skills. You will negotiate with vendors, resolve customer complaints, and price work — often on the same day.
  • Experience managing field crews or production teams with direct accountability for outcomes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. You will be the face of the company to commercial clients.

Preferred

  • Background in kitchen design, millwork, cabinetry, or countertop fabrication. This industry has a language and a logic that translates directly into performance here.
  • Familiarity with stone or countertop fabrication operations, including material types (granite, quartz, marble) and their handling requirements.
  • Experience with scheduling or job management software. Moraware is our platform — transferable experience with similar systems is a plus.
  • OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain it. Several commercial contracts require it.
  • Experience with commercial construction workflows including shop drawings and change orders.

What It Takes to Succeed Here

We will be direct with you about the environment because we would rather have the right person than the wrong one.

  • You are proactive by default. The most consistent challenge in this operation is that most of the team is task-driven rather than initiative-driven. You will be the person who sees something and acts on it without being asked.
  • You follow systems and build them where they do not exist. When the systems are followed here, the operation runs well. The job is maintaining that discipline.
  • You are a strong communicator with people at every level — the owner, commercial clients, field crews, and vendors — and you adjust your approach accordingly.
  • You can manage up. The owner is not in the building every day. You run the operation and bring him what he needs to know.
  • You are comfortable with autonomy. You will have full authority over the day-to-day operation. Personnel and major financial decisions go to the owner. Everything else is yours.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with the scope of the role.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Onsite fuel — all company vehicles fill up at our on-site pump.
  • A stable, long-standing business with a loyal client base and consistent revenue.
  • A knowledge transfer period with the outgoing Operations Manager.

Transition and Onboarding

Comprehensive SOPs covering every major process have been developed and will be provided on day one.

We are not looking for someone who needs to figure it out alone. We are looking for someone capable of absorbing what exists, asking the right questions, and taking ownership — in that order.

How to Apply

Submit your resume and a brief note describing your background in operations or stone/construction industry work. We are not looking for a cover letter. We are looking for a clear picture of what you have done and what kind of operation you have managed.
