The Mental Health & Addictions Program offers health promotion and prevention, urgent and emergent, rehabilitation, and continuing care services to children, youth and adults in acute care, community, and correctional health settings. Services range from assessment, counselling, detoxification, treatment and follow-up to rehabilitation, housing, case management and leisure programming. We are located at various hospital and community sites, in urban and rural settings, throughout the eastern region.

Job Summary
The Social Worker III is an advanced clinical position responsible for the monitoring and delivery of clinical interventions/programming on Main Street: a therapeutic healing space within the New Mental Health and Addictions Centre (MHAC) that utilizes a holistic approach to support individuals/families on their recovery journey. The successful candidate will work with collaborating partners and Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) staff within MHAC to manage and review patient referrals for clinical groups/interventions, and ensure that all programming and interventions are inclusive, evidenced based, and reflective of patient needs and recovery goals. The Social Worker III will be part of the Main Street interprofessional team, providing clinical knowledge and guidance to staff that supports the development and implementation of clinical interventions/programming, including groups (in-person and virtual) and single session therapeutic interventions. The candidate will facilitate clinical groups, manage a case load, and provide MHAC staff with training to enhance mental health and addiction treatment and services for patients/families. This position exercises a significant degree of independent clinical judgment in managing patient referrals, prioritizing safety, and providing clinical oversight for clinical interventions/programming. This position will report directly to the MHA Manager of Social Work and Clinical Efficiency, MHA Acute Care and Tertiary Services Program.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience, within the last seven, working as a Social Worker in a mental health and addictions program is required.
Experience with the development and facilitation of mental health and addictions group programming is required.
Experience conducting clinical assessments and delivering individual and group interventions/counselling is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, and Advanced Health Care Directives Act.
Knowledge of best practices, programs/services and community resources specific to mental health, mental illness, addiction, and co-occurring disorders.
Significant knowledge of evidence based mental health, addictions and concurrent disorders, trauma and associated treatment and delivery systems.
Knowledge and ability to integrate different treatment modalities into therapeutic interventions.
Knowledge of the Recovery Model and Trauma Informed Care.
Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counselling.
Advanced clinical skills and strong ability to review referrals, conduct assessments, and support delivery and monitoring of clinical interventions/programming.
Advanced clinical skills and experience providing mental health and addiction treatment and therapeutic interventions to individuals and families in group settings and through single sessions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritizing program and clinical needs.
Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational and research skills.

Duties (Included but not limited to):
Review, manage and provide clinical oversight and guidance for Main Street referrals specific to clinical groups and therapeutic interventions.
Support and lead rounds with Main Street interprofessional team where needed.
Lead and support the expansion of evidence based clinical interventions/programming and groups (in-person and virtual) for Main Street and MHAC focusing on mental health and addiction.
Collaborate with MHA staff and partners to support the integration of MHA groups/interventions and virtual E-mental health groups (e.g. TAO and Breaking Free) into Main Street and MHAC.
Identify and coordinate education opportunities for MHA clinicians where necessary.
Manage a caseload and provide clinical services such as screening, comprehensive assessments, treatment application and follow-up, as well as other interventions (including 1 on 1) as part of an interprofessional team.
Participate in quality assurance initiatives as requested/required to ensure ongoing improvement of clinical programming/interventions and groups.
Practices independently according to professional and organizational standards.
