Senior React Native Engineer (Contract, Remote – Canada)

Location: Remote (must be based in Canada)

Type: Contract (Open-ended, with renewal based on fit)

Rate: Up to $140/hr CAD

Reports To: VP of Engineering

Why this role?

LeanScaper is building the first AI-powered platform for landscaping contractors, connecting the tools they use to run, schedule, and grow their business. You'll lead development on our offline-first React Native app that's used daily in the field.

This is not a ticket-taking role. You'll own mobile infrastructure, guide technical decisions, and ship features that drive real-world impact. If you've led React Native work on a production app and like the idea of clear ownership without the red tape of big teams, this is that kind of role.

What you'll do

Own:

• Architecture, CI/CD, and infrastructure for our React Native app
• Logging, error tracking, performance, and analytics tooling

Build:

• Offline-first functionality that works in low-connectivity job sites
• Real-time interactions via WebSockets

Contribute:

• Shared components across mobile and React web apps
• Testing with Jest and React Native Testing Library

What we're looking for

Must Have:

• 3+ years of professional React Native experience (6+ years total ideally)
• TypeScript, Expo EAS, and Hermes in production
• Proven experience with offline-first mobile apps and local persistence

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Fabric, TurboModules, Gesture Handler, Reanimated
• Experience with React web
• Bonus: background in AI or LLM-powered apps

What to expect

• 30 days: ramped on codebase and processes
• 60 days: delivering meaningful feature work
• 90 days: owning scoped deliverables with reliability

We don't provide benefits for contractors. While full-time conversion is possible down the line, that's not the default path.

We're a remote team mostly working Eastern and Central time, with flexibility across North American time zones.
