Team: DataOps – Database Administration (DataVista)

Employment Type: Full-time; Rotational shifts for L1/L2 monitoring (including weekends shifts), 5 Days work and 2 days week off.

Role Summary

You will support the health, availability, and basic security of Microsoft SQL Server databases across Development, QA, and Production. This is a hands‑on entry role focusing on daily checks, backup/restore validation, user access, and alert triage under senior DBA supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily health checks: backups status, SQL Agent job outcomes, disk/log usage, blocking chains, long‑running queries, CPU/memory trends (via approved dashboards/scripts).
• Monitor & triage alerts (deadlocks, failed jobs, login failures, space thresholds); collect logs and escalate according to SOP.
• Validate backup chains (Full/Diff/Log) and perform test restores in lower environments (WITH MOVE/RECOVERY).
• Execute pre‑approved maintenance: index rebuild/reorg, stats updates, DBCC CHECKDB; document outcomes.
• Manage user access (create/alter logins, grant/revoke roles) via change approvals; maintain access audit logs.
• Maintain inventory & documentation: server/db inventories, SOPs, runbooks, change logs, and knowledge base pages.
• Support release windows (lower env deployments, DACPAC validation, schema compare reports) under guidance.

Required Skills (Must‑Have)

• Solid SQL fundamentals: SELECT, JOINs, GROUP BY, basic window functions.
• Understanding of database objects, normalization, and indexing basics.
• Familiar with Windows OS concepts (services, file system, permissions).
• Basics of Git or any version control (pull/commit/push).
• Strong attention to detail; disciplined in following SOPs and checklists.
• Excellent written documentation and crisp escalation.

Good to Have (Preferred)

• Exposure to SSMS, Azure Data Studio, SQL Profiler/Extended Events basics.
• Awareness of AlwaysOn/Clustering/Log Shipping concepts.
• Familiarity with PowerShell or T‑SQL automation patterns.
• Understanding of ETL/ADF/SSIS and how jobs interact with databases.
• Exposure to any cloud databases (Azure, GCP, AWS) will be additional advantage.
• Exposure to PostgreSQL is great add on.

Education

• BE/BTech in CS/IT or related discipline. SQL certifications are a plus. CLOUD (GCP,AZURE) certifications are a plus.
