The Opportunity
The Senior Financial Analyst - Operations plays an integral role within the FP&A team, acting as a strategic partner to stakeholders across the business. This position is responsible for delivering meaningful financial analysis, reporting, and insights to support informed decision‑making and drive business performance. You will gain exposure across the full profit and loss statement while collaborating closely with functions such as FP&A, Supply Chain, Operations, Capital, and IT.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare and deliver financial reports (Fixed Costs, Variable Costs, and variance analysis across multiple comparative periods), providing clear commentary on key drivers, risks, and opportunities.
- Lead month‑end close responsibilities, including account reconciliations, variance analysis, and communicating results to stakeholders.
- Build, monitor, and report on key financial and operational KPIs to assess performance and support monthly management reporting.
- Enhance and streamline reporting processes through automation and data visualization to ensure clarity, accuracy, and actionable insights.
- Analyze cost trends to identify opportunities for savings and efficiency, including monitoring commodity pricing (internal and external) and assessing financial impact.
- Oversee cost center expenditures throughout the year, fostering accountability and proactively flagging potential concerns.
- Support budgeting and forecasting cycles, ensuring data accuracy while identifying risks and opportunities beyond plan.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with site controllers, cost accountants, and operational leaders to interpret results, gather insights, and influence decision‑making.
- Develop financial models and dashboards to effectively communicate business performance.
- Create and present materials for management reviews, budgeting sessions, forecasts, and ad hoc analyses.
- Contribute to system enhancements, reporting improvements, and FP&A process optimization initiatives.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members or co‑op students, as applicable.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business/Commerce.
- 4+ years of relevant experience in operational finance, cost accounting, or a manufacturing environment.
- CPA designation completed or in progress.
- Advanced Excel skills (including Power Query, Pivot Tables, etc.) and experience working with large ERP systems (SAP is an asset).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities, with the ability to think critically in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging automation and BI tools to deliver timely, data‑driven insights.
- A natural curiosity and strong interest in understanding business operations and performance drivers.
- Self‑starter with a proactive approach and strong sense of ownership.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into clear and actionable business insights.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced setting.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and process improvement initiatives is considered an asset.
Compensation Range: $80,000 - $100,000
