About MBN
Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN) is the premier Arabic-first media organization that connects the Middle East and the United States. The company is in the midst of an exciting digital transformation and looking for energetic and talented people who care about journalism and the Middle East to join us on this journey.
We provide original and indispensable reporting, perspectives and commentary on the Middle East and how America’s engagement impacts the region. MBN delivers content in both Arabic and English across multiple platforms, in formats including written articles, short-form video, newsletters, podcasts, data trackers and social media.
Our target audience is decision-makers, influencers, and residents of key capitals across the Middle East, as well as the next generation of globally engaged, digitally connected youth.
About The Role
China is one of the most consequential stories in the Middle East today, and you can’t fully report it from Washington or Beijing. We’re looking for a field journalist to cover it where it actually takes shape — in the deals, infrastructure, and partnerships on the ground.
In this role, you’ll supply the field reporting that grounds the China Desk’s coverage of the region. Working with the Senior Editor and the desk’s data and investigative leads, you’ll connect high-level analysis to local reality and provide the regional perspective at the center of MBN’s journalism.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following tasks are considered essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions:
- Report on China’s footprint and activities across the region.
- Develop and maintain local sources across government, business, and finance.
- File field reporting, document-based findings, and on-the-ground verification for desk investigations.
- Work with the Data Editor and the Senior Investigative Correspondent on in-depth projects.
Other Duties:
Perform additional job-related duties and take on new responsibilities as needed based on organizational requirements and circumstances.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Candidates are required to have:
- A bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Established reporting experience in the region.
- A deep working source network across the region’s business, energy, or policy circles.
- The ability to handle sensitive, high-risk subject matter safely and discreetly.
- Strong reporting and writing skills in Arabic.
- The capacity to work independently as a field-based journalist.
Skills considered a plus to have:
- Familiarity with China’s commercial and diplomatic activities in the region.
- Strong English and/or Mandarin skills are a major plus.
- Experience in video news production.
Submit a CV, a short cover note explaining your interest in the China/MENA beat, and 2–3 representative work samples (published clips, datasets, or investigations)
MBN is an equal opportunity employer committed to workforce diversity.
