Job Description

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Frontend Developer who knows Shopify inside out and can actually build, customize, and fix things, not just install themes. This role is for someone with strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and deep working knowledge of Shopify’s Liquid templating system.

You’ll own the storefront experience end to end. Speed, usability, flexibility, and clean code matter here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and customize Shopify themes using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Develop schema-driven, reusable custom sections that merchants can manage without touching code
  • Work extensively with Online Store 2.0 (JSON templates, sections everywhere, app blocks)
  • Customize product pages, collection pages, cart, and checkout flows (where applicable)
  • Diagnose and resolve storefront issues, whether caused by Liquid logic, theme limitations, or app conflicts
  • Integrate and maintain third-party Shopify apps and custom features
  • Optimize site performance, page speed, and Core Web Vitals
  • Ensure mobile-first UX, cross-browser compatibility, and basic accessibility standards
  • Collaborate using Git and Shopify CLI for version control and deployments

Must-Have Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in Shopify Liquid
  • Strong command of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Solid experience customizing Shopify themes and storefront logic
  • Deep understanding of Online Store 2.0 architecture
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, performance-optimized frontend code
  • Comfortable troubleshooting independently using documentation and browser dev tools

Good to Have

  • Working knowledge of Shopify AJAX API (cart, search, dynamic updates)
  • Experience with Tailwind or utility-first CSS frameworks
  • Understanding of technical SEO for eCommerce
  • Familiarity with Lighthouse, GTmetrix, and performance debugging tools
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and code reviews

What We Value

  • Strong problem-solving mindset
  • Clear communication with non-technical teams
  • Ability to identify whether an issue is frontend, Liquid, app-related, or needs backend escalation
  • Attention to detail and pride in code quality

Why Mesmerize

  • Real ownership of a fast-growing D2C brand storefront
  • Freedom to build scalable, flexible systems instead of patchwork fixes
  • Work on a product-first brand that cares about design, speed, and experience
