Job Description

Our machine building client in Toronto, ON is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design, detailing, testing, commissioning, and customer support phases of custom automated equipment projects. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, on-time electrical designs that meet customer specifications and production schedules.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and detail electrical control systems using AutoCAD Electrical and EPlan
  • Develop and modify electrical drawings based on past projects and new customer requirements
  • Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and source appropriate electrical components
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC & HMI systems (multi-platform)
  • Design and integrate motion control systems (servos, VFDs), safety
  • Commission and install automated equipment at customer sites
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues during testing and warranty support
  • Manage engineering documentation, testing records, calculations, and project files
  • Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) within required timelines
  • Support Master Production Schedule milestones and meet project budget timelines
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, electrical shop, and production teams
  • Mentor junior team members and uphold ISO and safety standards

What You Bring

  • Engineering degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering/Technology (controls focus)
  • 5+ years of electrical controls design experience with project ownership
  • Strong PLC & HMI programming experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens STEP 7, or CODESYS)
  • Experience designing servo and VFD-based motion control systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and equipment integration skills
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and perform field measurements (multimeter, oscilloscope)
  • Strong time management and project execution capabilities
  • P.Eng designation considered an asset
