Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Senior Fleet Technician(s) or Maintenance Supervisor, will provide technical expertise beyond the
Fleet Technician I level in the performance and planning of service, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, upgrading, testing,
outfitting, and commissioning of all vehicles, specialized equipment and other units utilized in the Corporate Fleet.
Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate all activities and resources related to the performance of specific assignments, including major
inspections, capital rebuilds, complex field work, and other significant team or individual projects.
- Service, maintain, repair, overhaul, and outfit corporate fleet units including all associated systems and components.
- Troubleshoot and perform diagnostic analysis to identify defects and malfunctions in complex hydraulic, mechanical, and
electrical systems associated with all fleet units.
- Perform the inspections of all vehicles and equipment to comply with the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act and its regulations,
related standards, other regulations, and directives.
- Operate designated fleet units with proficiency, to assure manufacturer's design, functional performance and all safety criteria
are met, and recognize factors of performance or design of any fleet unit which could be improved.
- Perform quality assurance inspections of sublet repairs, assigned work orders and any additional work completed, with full
documentation of defects or non-compliance.
- Required to apply Manitoba Hydro safety & housekeeping practices in immediate work area, shop, and yards at all times.
- Perform general welding processes as required to facilitate the maintenance, repair, overhaul, upgrading and outfitting
requirements of all fleet units.
- Required to assist with the training of apprentices (trainees), operators or other personnel on any aspect of the theory,
operation, repair, overhaul, and servicing of all fleet units.
- May be required to assist with or perform non-destructive testing procedures for specialized equipment, and may be required
to perform individual assignments in remote and/or undesirable work locations under all climatic conditions and with minimal
notice.
- May be required to operate a tow truck with proficiency.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education, plus an Interprovincial Truck & Transport Mechanic Certificate, or Interprovincial Heavy Duty Equipment
Technician Certificate, or Interprovincial Agricultural Equipment Technician Certificate, or Interprovincial Automotive Service
Technician Certificate and one year of experience as a Fleet Technician I (or equivalent).
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain Interprovincial Truck & Transport Mechanic Certificate and a valid Province of
Manitoba Inspection Certificate for trucks/truck-tractors and trailers >4500 kg.
- Required to actively participate in obtaining certification as a Utility Fleet Mechanic as defined in the UFM Learning Guide.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate work activities and provide leadership in a team environment.

- Demonstrated proficiency in the operation, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and complete overhaul of all types of Utility Fleet
equipment.
- Successfully completed courses or received documented training in hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical system theory and
repair, rigging and slinging, load distribution, vehicle stability and performance calculation theory.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Good interpersonal skills to be able to deal effectively with people and have an understanding of the requirements needed to
work within a service group.
- Proven desire to expand knowledge and potential through additional training and courses to keep abreast of changing
technology.
- Possess an operating permit for designated corporate fleet equipment including a forklift operator's permit.
- Fully familiar with Manitoba Hydro safety and housekeeping practices.
- Possess a full set of personal hand tools as required under Manitoba Hydro Policy.
- Physically capable of performing all duties of the position.
- Possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence minimum Class 3 A. May also be required to obtain a Class 1 A.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $36.39-$53.26 Hourly,
$69,725.50-$102,064.04 Annually.
