Job Description
- Dispensing & Assembly: Accurately assemble, label, and dispense medication prescriptions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and legal requirements.
- Stock Management: Maintain inventory by checking stock levels, ordering current supplies, and performing regular date checks to remove expired products.
- Patient Interaction: Receive prescriptions, handle inquiries (in-person or by phone), and provide guidance on over-the-counter (OTC) medicines.
- Administrative Tasks: Utilize computer systems to maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records and handle electronic or cash payments.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with Good Dispensing Practices (GDP) and maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety within the pharmacy. Trac +7
Common Tasks Breakdown
- Preparation: Selecting the correct medication, counting tablets, and producing accurate labels.
- Workflow Support: Liaising between patients and the pharmacist to ensure smooth operation.
- Deliveries: Handling incoming stock deliveries and organizing the dispensary area.
- Confidentiality: Maintaining strict patient confidentiality at all times.
Dispensers (who may also be known as dispensing assistants or pharmacy support workers) focus on the operational, technical, and logistical tasks within a pharmacy. They are distinct from Pharmacy Technicians, who often have additional training and higher-level responsibilities
