Job Description
About the Role
LR Tobacco LLP is hiring a hands-on Field Training & Documentation Officer to work directly with farmers and on-ground workers in and around Nadiad, Gujarat. The role sits at the intersection of capacity building and record-keeping: train farmers and workers on best practices, SOPs, and quality protocols, while maintaining accurate field documentation, training records, and compliance reports.
This position is ideal for someone with an agriculture background who enjoys spending time in the field, communicating in local language, and translating practical know-how into clear written records that can stand up to audit and management review.
Key Responsibilities — Training Farmers
- Plan and conduct on-field training sessions on cultivation practices, input usage, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and quality standards.
- Demonstrate good agricultural practices (GAP), pest and disease management, soil health, and safe handling of inputs.
- Translate technical SOPs into simple, local-language sessions, demos, and visual aids.
- Run refresher sessions during key crop stages and capture farmer feedback to improve content.
Training Workers & Field Staff
- Onboard and train field workers, supervisors, and collection-centre staff on operating procedures, hygiene, safety, and quality checks.
- Conduct toolbox talks, on-the-job coaching, and periodic skill assessments.
- Identify skill gaps and design simple, repeatable training modules with checklists and job aids.
- Promote a culture of safety, traceability, and accountability on the ground.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain training registers, attendance sheets, photographs, and competency-assessment records for every session.
- Prepare and update SOPs, training manuals, posters, and field handbooks; keep version control clean.
- Capture field data — plots, inputs, activities, yields, non-conformances — and digitise it in trackers, spreadsheets, or the company app.
- Compile weekly and monthly reports for management, including training coverage, KPIs, and corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audits by keeping documentation audit-ready.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, or a related field (preferred).
- 2–5 years of experience in farmer training, agricultural extension, FPO/NGO field roles, or similar on-ground work.
- Strong working knowledge of crop production practices and farm operations.
- Comfortable with documentation, MS Office (Word, Excel), Google Sheets, and basic data entry tools.
- Fluency in Gujarati; working proficiency in Hindi/English for reporting.
- Willingness to travel extensively to farms, villages, and processing/collection sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to certifications such as Organic, GlobalG.A.P., Fair Trade, FSSAI, or buyer codes of conduct.
- Experience preparing SOPs, training modules, or audit documentation.
- Prior experience working with smallholder farmers, FPOs, or cooperatives.
- Familiarity with mobile data-collection tools (Kobo, ODK, or similar).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication and facilitation skills — able to teach both literate and semi-literate audiences.
- Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity when working with farmers and rural workers.
- Detail-oriented with a habit of writing things down clearly and on time.
- Self-driven, organised, and able to manage a field calendar independently.
- Problem-solving mindset and ownership of outcomes.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary aligned with experience, plus field/travel allowances.
- Opportunity to make a direct, visible impact on farmer livelihoods and product quality.
- Training, mentorship, and growth into senior field, quality, or program roles.
- A collaborative, mission-driven team.
Pay: ₹200,000.00 - ₹400,000.00 per year
