A BI Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing scalable data solutions that enable reliable reporting and data-driven decision-making across the organization. The role supports business performance by transforming data from enterprise systems into high-quality, performance-optimized analytics assets, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of information for stakeholders.

This position involves implementing backend data engineering processes to integrate data from SAP, SAP BW, databases, and third-party systems into target platforms such as Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, building data models in data warehouses and lakehouses, optimizing Power BI semantic models and datasets, and automating reporting processes using Azure Power Platform while ensuring performance and capacity efficiency.

In addition, the Data Engineer must independently develop Power BI dashboards and reports that deliver meaningful insights, KPIs, and performance metrics through effective data modeling and visualization design.

The role also contributes to data governance using Microsoft Fabric capabilities, including managing data catalog structures, and works closely with business users to translate analytical requirements into scalable technical solutions while supporting modernization and platform migration initiatives.

Design secure and resilient IT solutions across the Coats Data Landscape including Azure, SAP BI, etc.

Azure Data Services for data engineering tasks (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL).

Power BI for dashboard development and reporting.

MS SQL for database management and query development.

SAP BI, SAP DS, and HANA SQL (added advantage).

Microsoft Fabric for integrated data solutions across data engineering, analytics, and governance.

Data Cataloging tools and practices for managing data assets and ensuring data discoverability

Ensuring data accuracy and consistency.

Design, develop, and deploy interactive reports and dashboards in Power BI.

Utilize complex DAX formulas for data analysis and visualization.

Implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for data integration.

Automate data processes using Azure Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps).

Deliver quick wins for urgent reporting needs within 1-2 weeks.

Support and train BI power users in report development and insights generation.

Leverage Microsoft Fabric for seamless data integration, management, and governance.

Develop and maintain a data catalog to ensure organized, well-documented, and easily accessible data assets.

Project Delivery as required

Work with BI and other Data Teams.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

IT professional

  • Bachelor's or Master degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in BI development and Support Projects with expertise on Data Extraction, Modelling, Reporting and Support.
  • Strong experience in Power BI, including DAX, data modeling, and report/dashboard creation with visualizations and data insights.
  • Proficiency in MS SQL for complex queries and database management.
  • Experience with Azure Data Engineering tools (Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database).
  • Automation experience with Azure Power Platforms (Power Automate, Power Apps, etc).
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Fabric for unified data solutions across engineering and analytics.
  • Good knowledge of creating and managing a data catalog to improve data organization and accessibility.
  • Good Understanding of SAP Functional Modules Flow
  • Exposure to SAP BI, SAP Data Services, and HANA SQL.

Microsoft certifications (e.g., Data Analyst Associate, Azure Data Engineer, Microsoft Fabric).

ITIL awareness

Project / Program Management certification

Data Science exposure
