INTERNATIONAL TRADE COORDINATOR (SUMMER STUDENT POSITION)

SUMMARY
The International Trade Coordinator navigates the evolving international trade landscape, with particular focus on US tariffs impacting the commercial furniture industry to help facilitate accurate tariff reporting, improved internal management systems and tariff mitigation strategies.
This role will provide hands-on exposure to real-world trade compliance, tariff classification and cross-functional business analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with both Customer Service and Marketing leadership to ensure accuracy in tariff-related data and support informed decision-making in a dynamic and regulatory environment. By ensuring accurate trade compliance and tariff reporting, this role helps Keilhauer deliver products reliably and responsibly, furthering our mission of making work comfortable for all.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tariff Research & Upskilling
- Quickly develops working knowledge of current tariff regulations with a focus on those impacting commercial furniture exports to the United States.
- Monitors and summarizes changes in tariff policies, duties and trade requirements.
Tariff Code Review & Validation
- Conducts a detailed review of Keilhauer’s existing tariff (HS/HTS) codes.
- Identifies discrepancies or opportunities for improved classification accuracy.
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders and external partners as needed to validate classifications.
Business Impact Analysis
- Analyzes the product lines through the lens of tariff classifications.
- Assesses the financial and operational impact of current tariffs on key products.
- Supports the development of insights and recommendations to mitigate tariff exposure.
Data Collection & Documentation
- Gathers and documents component-level data, including weights of steel and aluminum parts for top-selling products.
- Organizes and maintains clear, accurate records to support compliance and reporting requirements.
Cross-Functional Support
- Partners with Customer Service and Marketing teams to align tariff-related insights with customer communication and business strategy.
- Assists with ad-hoc projects related to trade compliance and customer experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Engineering or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data organization and analysis); proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Strong analytical and research skills with high attention to detail required.
- Ability to learn and interpret complex regulatory information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Interest in design, architecture or the furniture industry is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This role is performed primarily in an office environment which is typically quiet. Most of your duties will be fulfilled with the use of a computer and office equipment, with communications taking place by phone, email, virtually or in person. Some functions of your role will be conducted in the manufacturing facility where you may be exposed to dust particles and noise.
- This position requires frequent, dynamic interaction through face-to-face contact, email, phone and other virtual communications.
- Must be able to multi-task and handle frequent interruptions to planned work activities.
- Follows all company and OHSA Safety regulations; works in a safe manner and uses personal protective equipment, if required; reinforces housekeeping and Keilhauer’s core values.
