Job Description

Kearney & Company is looking for a Windows System Administrator to join our team! The Windows System Administrator will perform system administration tasks, to include infrastructure administration and automation, information security support and configurations, software and OS installation/updates, and follow configuration/change control processes. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and performing regular maintenance tasks such as applying updates, patches, and security fixes
  • Manage on-premises and cloud infrastructure—including virtual machines, identity services, backups, security configurations, and enterprise applications throughout their full lifecycle
  • Assist Network Engineers with configuring and managing network services, such as DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory
  • Design, administer, and optimize Windows Server environments, virtualization platforms, storage systems, and core network components
  • Implement and enforce security best practices, including access controls, encryption, logging, monitoring, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening aligned with NIST requirements
  • Assist with implementing and managing backup strategies to ensure data protection and disaster recovery capabilities in case of system failures or data loss
  • Conduct regular system health checks, security audits, and risk assessments, documenting findings and remediating gaps proactively
  • Analyzing system performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing optimizations to improve overall system efficiency and responsiveness
  • Develop scripts, automation tools, and streamlined workflows to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including configurations, procedures, diagrams, policies, and system change records
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps, as well as generating reports on system performance, security, and compliance
  • Participating in the planning and implementation of new systems, upgrades, and migrations, ensuring compatibility and adherence to best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or 4 years of related experience may be accepted in lieu of the degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in systems administration or a related infrastructure-focused role
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and other core services
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities and able to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues
  • Proficiency with scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.)
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills across systems, networks, and cloud services
  • Experience with system hardening guidelines (e.g., CIS benchmarks)
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Agency Suitability (requires U.S. citizenship)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant industry certification (e.g., Network+, Security+, CCSP,)
  • Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Azure Kubernetes or Azure Container)
  • Familiarity with Cloud administration, specifically Azure

The expected salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $140,000. This range is representative of base pay only and does not include straight time pay for hours worked over 40 per week, company contributions towards paid benefits, and/or bonuses. Actual compensation (meeting or exceeding the range) will be determined based on specific experience, education, work location, clearance level, and other factors permitted by law. This position is eligible for bonuses (when applicable).
