Cloud System Administrator

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cloud System Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, performance, and scalability of cloud-based systems while supporting organizational IT operations and strategic initiatives.

Engagements are structured on a contract-to-hire or fractional executive basis, with consultants operating in a white-label capacity, representing our organization and/or our end-clients at an executive level.

Pay: CA$22.00 – CA$25.00 per hour (commensurate with skills and experience)

Location: Remote (preference for candidates located in Atlantic provinces, but not mandatory)

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Monitor system performance, uptime, and resource utilization to ensure optimal operations
• Provision, configure, and maintain virtual machines, storage, and networking resources
• Implement and manage cloud security controls, identity access management (IAM), and compliance measures
• Perform regular backups, disaster recovery planning, and system restoration procedures
• Automate deployment, scaling, and infrastructure management using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
• Troubleshoot and resolve system, network, and application issues in a timely manner
• Collaborate with DevOps, development, and IT teams for seamless deployment and operations
• Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and system changes
• Stay updated with emerging cloud technologies and best practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 3–6 years of experience in system administration or cloud infrastructure management
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix and/or Windows Server environments
• Experience with networking concepts (VPCs, subnets, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is an asset
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices is preferred
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
• Google Associate Cloud Engineer
• CompTIA Cloud+ or equivalent
