AWS Cloud Engineer – Cybersecurity Labs & CTF Development

Experience: 2 to 4 years

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Infrastructure (AWS)

● Design, deploy, and manage secure AWS cloud environments for

cybersecurity labs

● Build and maintain virtual machines (EC2), networking (VPCs), and storage

solutions

● Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or

CloudFormation

● Ensure high availability, scalability, and cost optimization of cloud resources

Cybersecurity Lab Development

● Create and manage hands-on lab environments for training (beginner to

advanced levels)

● Simulate real-world attack and defense scenarios (web, network, system

security)

● Configure vulnerable machines and secure environments for practical

exercises

● Integrate labs with LMS and cyber range platforms

CTF (Capture The Flag) Development

● Design and develop engaging CTF challenges (web, crypto, forensics,

reverse engineering, etc.)

● Build and deploy CTF infrastructure on AWS

● Create scoring systems, flags, and automated validation mechanisms

● Support live competitions and events (e.g., CyberPulse, national/international

CTFs)

Security & Monitoring

● Implement cloud security best practices (IAM, security groups, monitoring,

logging)

● Conduct vulnerability assessments of lab environments

● Ensure isolation and safety of offensive security labs

● Monitor usage and respond to incidentsAutomation & Optimization

● Automate deployment and teardown of lab environments

● Optimize cloud cost and resource utilization

● Maintain scripts and tools for efficient lab management

Required Skills & Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field

● 3–6 years of experience in AWS cloud engineering or DevOps

● Strong hands-on experience with:

• AWS services (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, CloudWatch)
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation)
• Linux system administration

● Experience with virtualization and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes is a

plus)

● Solid understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls)

● Basic to intermediate cybersecurity knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience in building cybersecurity labs or cyber range platforms

● Prior experience in CTF creation or participation

● Knowledge of penetration testing tools (e.g., Metasploit, Burp Suite,

Wireshark)

● AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Security Specialty)

● Scripting skills (Python, Bash)
