Job Description

Job Title: Product Designer

Job Purpose: The Product Designer is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and developing user-friendly, aesthetically pleasing, and functional manufactured products. They will cross-functionally collaborate with product development, engineering, design, production, quality, compliance, supply chain, marketing, sales, and cost accounting teams to successfully bring products from concept to market. The ideal candidate will have strong creative and technical skills, a keen eye for detail, and collaborate well with all parties.

Classification: Full-time, Exempt, Administrative

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ideate consumer solutions to make life better.
  • Investigate consumer and customer experience, pain points, and market trends.
  • Work cross-functionally with product development, engineering, design, production, quality, compliance, supply chain, marketing, sales, and cost accounting teams to ensure products meet customer and consumer needs and are optimized for functionality, manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Create physical prototypes to test and refine designs for form, function, manufacturability, ergonomics, and safety.
  • Sketching, rendering, and using CAD software to create product design ideas.
  • Draft Production / Engineering drawings of prototypes and samples.
  • Document prototype and sample requirements for costing and production.
  • Select suitable materials and manufacturing methods for production.
  • Conduct user testing and incorporating feedback into design improvements.
  • Create production samples for customer line reviews.
  • Help streamline communication between Go-To-Market and Operational business units.
  • Help standardize design workflows, prototyping processes, and sampling processes.
  • Clearly present & communicate project status, product issues, and risk to customer timelines.
  • Lead problem solving initiatives to bring product ideas from concept to production launch.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, often within tight deadlines.
  • Integrate with manufacturing team, gaining a deep, tactile understanding of how designs translate into physical products.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, or Equivalent Experience

Experience

  • 0-3 years of experience working in product design and manufacturing.
  • Experience with Cutting, Sewing, and Textile Manufacturing processes are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of furniture / garment construction, fabric types, and pattern grading.

Skills

  • Microsoft Office
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Creative problem-solving.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean and accessible file system.
  • User-centric thinking.
  • Curiosity.

Working Conditions

Environment

  • Position located onsite in Monticello, Indiana.
  • Primary Duties are single site, with minimal travel requirements.

Essential physical requirements

  • Primary Duties could involve sitting, standing, walking, and lifting continuously each day.
