Role Overview:

We are seeking a senior email security specialist to support the migration of enterprise email protection from Proofpoint to Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Exchange Online Protection (EOP).

This is a hands-on technical role responsible for assessing the current Proofpoint deployment, designing the Microsoft security configuration, and executing a controlled migration.

The candidate will work closely with security and messaging teams to ensure a secure and stable transition with minimal disruption to mail flow.

The candidate will support an active migration project and will be expected to contribute immediately to architecture validation, migration execution, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

Assess the current Proofpoint email security deployment, policies, and mail flow architecture

Design the target configuration using Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Exchange Online Protection

Plan and execute the migration from Proofpoint to Microsoft Defender

Redesign and validate inbound and outbound mail flow during migration

Plan and support MX cutover and mail flow transition from Proofpoint to Microsoft EOP

Configure and tune Microsoft email security policies including:

Anti-spam and anti-malware protection

Anti-phishing and impersonation protection

Safe Links and Safe Attachments

URL protection and attachment scanning

Configure and validate mail flow connectors and routing between Proofpoint, Exchange Online, and external systems

Implement SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication

Configure transport rules, quarantine management, and threat policies

Support pilot rollout, validation testing, and production cutover

Troubleshoot mail delivery issues, false positives, and security policy conflicts during migration

Validate protection against phishing, malware, and impersonation attacks

Document final architecture, security policies, and operational procedures

Required Experience:

7+ years’ experience in email security, messaging security, or Microsoft 365 security

Strong experience with Proofpoint Email Security

Strong experience with Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Exchange Online Protection

Must have led or executed at least one migration from Proofpoint (or another secure email gateway) to Microsoft Defender for Office 365

Must have hands-on experience designing and implementing mail flow cutover from a secure email gateway to Exchange Online Protection / Microsoft Defender for Office 365

Experience working in enterprise Microsoft 365 environments

Understanding of Defence in Depth and Zero Trust Framework

Technical Skills:

Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (Plan 1 / Plan 2), Exchange Online Protection (EOP)

SMTP mail flow, connectors, and secure email gateway routing

Exchange Online mail flow, connectors and transport rules

Anti-phishing and impersonation protection

Email threat analysis and troubleshooting

SPF, DKIM, DMARC implementation||
