Job Description
Jallowalia Times is looking for a part-time Punjabi Community Journalist / Reporter in Calgary, Alberta.
This is a great opportunity for someone studying journalism, media, communications, broadcasting, or someone looking to build a real-world reporting portfolio within the Punjabi community.
The role is part-time and casual, usually 1–3 times per week depending on events, interviews, and community coverage opportunities. Most events or interviews may be around 2–6 hours, with the possibility of longer hours depending on the assignment.
The successful candidate should be confident, respectful, socially comfortable, and interested in community reporting. You should be comfortable meeting new people, asking questions, speaking with guests, and representing Jallowalia Times professionally.
You may be covering Punjabi community events, interviews, local business stories, artist interviews, political/community discussions, singer interviews, and other local stories connected to Calgary’s Punjabi community.
Training and equipment will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Attend local Punjabi community events, interviews, and media coverage opportunities in Calgary
- Conduct basic interviews with community members, artists, business owners, politicians, singers, and event organizers
- Prepare and ask simple, clear, respectful interview questions
- Represent Jallowalia Times professionally in public and community settings
- Speak confidently on camera or during interviews when required
- Help gather basic information, event details, quotes, and community stories
- Work with the team to create local Punjabi community news and interview content
- Follow basic journalism standards, including accuracy, respect, and professionalism
Requirements
- Fluent in Punjabi and English
- Hindi language skills are an asset
- Comfortable speaking with new people
- Confident, respectful, and socially comfortable in public settings
- Basic understanding or interest in journalism, media, reporting, or community interviews
- Good communication skills
- Professional attitude when meeting community members and guests
- Reliable and punctual
- Able to work part-time, usually 1–3 times per week depending on events
- Journalism, media, communications, or broadcasting students are welcome to apply
- No major experience required; training will be provided

Pay:
From $15.00 per hour (Starting)
