Salary Range: $75,000.00 To $75,000.00 Annually

HR Generalist (Canada)

Location: Charlottetown, PEI preferred with options for hybrid.

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Reports To: North American HR Leadership

Salary Range: $75,000 annually + 10% annual performance bonus, comprehensive benefits package, and paid time off

The Opportunity

The HR Generalist provides HR support for the Canadian facility and serves as a key partner to site Managers and Supervisors. This role delivers guidance on employee relations and compliance while ensuring alignment with broader North American HR practices.

The position works independently, supports cross-border initiatives, and contributes to HR process improvements across Canadian and U.S. operations.

Responsibilities

Provide HR Support

  • Provide front-line HR support to employees, supervisors, and managers in the Canadian facility
  • Lead employee relations matters, including investigations, corrective actions, and documentation
  • Advise managers on performance management, coaching, and conflict resolution

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment for Canadian roles, including sourcing, interviewing, and selection
  • Lead onboarding and orientation programs aligned with North American processes
  • Support workforce planning and talent pipeline development for critical roles

HR Operations & Payroll Coordination

  • Coordinate time & attendance, review hours, and provide accurate payroll inputs; act as backup for Canadian payroll process as required
  • Oversee immigration files including liaising with external partners and administering employee immigration documentation
  • Maintain HRIS data integrity and support reporting for Canadian workforce metrics
  • Recommend process improvements to streamline HR operations across both countries

Compliance & Policy Governance

  • Ensure compliance with all Canadian employment laws
  • Maintain employee documentation and records
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting

North American Collaboration

  • Collaborate on cross-border projects including policy alignment, process standardization, and HR system enhancements
  • Support North American engagement initiatives, training programs, and cultural alignment efforts

Engagement, Culture & Development

  • Lead employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and communication activities for the Canadian site
  • Deliver or coordinate training sessions (supervisory skills, DEI, compliance, etc.)
  • Serve as a cultural ambassador and trusted advisor for employees

Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience with strong generalist exposure
  • Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field; CPHR certification preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and province-specific requirements
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems, payroll inputs, and time/attendance systems
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills with attention to detail
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to build trust and influence leaders at multiple levels
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict resolution abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to work across borders
