PostgresSQL DBA

You will be responsible for administering PostgreSQL databases, including tasks such as installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning. You will implement and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for PostgreSQL databases. Monitoring database performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing queries, indexes, and database structures to ensure maximum efficiency will be part of your duties. Additionally, you will set up, configure, and manage high-availability solutions like replication, clustering, and failover mechanisms. Ensuring the security of PostgreSQL databases through role-based access controls, encryption, auditing, and regular security patching will also be crucial. Utilizing monitoring tools to proactively identify issues, performing root cause analysis, and resolving database performance issues or outages will be part of your daily tasks. Collaboration with development teams to design database schemas and structures, creating scripts and automation tools for database maintenance tasks, and maintaining clear and detailed documentation for all PostgreSQL database operations will also be expected. You will work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to ensure seamless integration of database systems within the infrastructure and monitor database usage, plan for future growth, and optimize database configurations to support increasing loads.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, with hands-on experience in managing, optimizing, and maintaining PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Knowledge of database architecture, configuration, replication, backup, recovery, and scaling techniques.
• Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL database internals, SQL, and performance tuning.
• Experience with tools such as pgAdmin, pgBouncer, Patroni, and pgpool.
• Familiarity with database monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and New Relic.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and operational tasks.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and database services like RDS or Cloud SQL is a plus.
• Understanding of data warehousing, ETL processes, and big data technologies (optional, depending on the role's scope).

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with other databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, NoSQL databases like MongoDB).
• Experience in setting up PostgreSQL clusters in cloud environments (AWS RDS, GCP, etc.).
• Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerized environments.
