Job Description
As a Legal Counsel at Imerys, you will provide support to Imerys businesses in the region on all areas of commercial in-house legal practice. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing accurate and timely legal counsel to stakeholders on a wide range of legal topics, including contractual matters, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents such as commercial contracts, GTCs, NDAs, MOUs, and other contractual arrangements in fields like sale and purchase, supply, consultancy, agency, distribution, real estate, construction, mining, and banking.
- Managing disputes, pre-litigation, and litigation matters, including arbitration, and developing effective strategies to resolve legal issues and protect the company's interests.
- Acting as a compliance point of contact for the region, assisting in training business teams and ensuring implementation of Group programs.
- Overseeing and coordinating corporate governance matters, including managing the network of company secretaries and corporate compliance service providers.
- Supporting General Counsel, Asia Pacific region in liaising with external consultants for corporate restructuring projects.
- Undertaking any other ad hoc projects and assignments determined by the General Counsel or senior management.
Qualifications required for this role include:
- Bachelor or master's degree in law from a reputable law school.
- 6 to 8 years of broad-based commercial legal experience, either in private practice or in-house (experience in an industrial MNC is preferred).
- Excellent knowledge of laws of India and other laws under South Asia or other common law jurisdictions.
- Excellent legal and strategic judgment, strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable advice for the business.
Additionally, fluency in business and legal English (both speaking and writing) is required, and knowledge of other languages is a plus.
