Position Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing all transportation operations across the organization, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods between facilities, customers, and suppliers.

This is a hybrid position based in Shelburne, ON, with in-office requirements on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The role reports directly to the Director, Transportation.

This role specializes in managing courier, less-than-truckload (LTL), and third-party logistics (3PL) operations, with accountability for optimizing carrier performance, reducing transportation costs, ensuring compliance with Canadian (and where applicable U.S.) regulations, and meeting customer delivery timelines.

The starting salary for this position is $100,000–$110,000 annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day transportation operations including inbound and outbound freight across all locations
  • Coordinate with plant teams, production, and customer service to ensure timely deliveries and pickups
  • Source, evaluate, and manage third-party carriers and transportation providers
  • Manage courier, LTL, and 3PL relationships to ensure service reliability, cost efficiency, and alignment with business needs
  • Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and service level agreements
  • Lead carrier negotiations across LTL, courier, and 3PL providers to secure competitive pricing and service levels
  • Monitor carrier performance, including on-time delivery, cost, and service quality
  • Track and report on transportation KPIs such as cost per unit, on-time delivery (OTD), and carrier performance using systems such as TMS
  • Troubleshoot and resolve transportation issues such as delays, capacity constraints, and service disruptions
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation regulations and safety standards
  • Optimize routing, load planning, and freight consolidation to improve efficiency and reduce cost
  • Develop and implement logistics strategies including load consolidation, mode selection/shifts, and route optimization to improve network efficiency
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, reporting, and documentation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain function

Essential Skills

  • Analytical Thinking: Evaluating freight rates, carrier performance data, and transportation trends to support decision-making and cost optimization
  • Problem-Solving: Resolving immediate dispatch, routing, or compliance delays to minimize operational disruption
  • Negotiation: Securing favorable freight rates, contract terms, and service levels with carriers and logistics partners
  • Communication: Managing relationships with carriers, internal stakeholders, and customers to ensure alignment and service excellence

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management
  • Direct experience managing LTL, courier, and/or 3PL transportation networks is strongly preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian transportation regulations (U.S. cross-border knowledge is an asset)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation/logistics systems (TMS experience preferred)
