Your New Employer
Our client is a well-established and expanding real estate platform with a portfolio of institutional-quality office assets across major Ontario markets, including a strong presence in the GTA and Ottawa. The Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of monthly and quarterly financial reporting, overseeing year-end audit processes, and managing budgeting and forecasting cycles across the portfolio. The role will maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures in accordance with GAAP, while overseeing key financial activities such as cash calls, distributions, and HST compliance.
From an operational perspective, the Controller will oversee property accounting, accounts payable, and receivable functions, while partnering with asset management and property management teams to support financial performance, reporting, and investor inquiries. A significant component of the role is leadership. The Controller will oversee Managers and accounting staff, providing coaching, development, and performance management while fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment. The role also includes a strong focus on systems and process improvement, working within a highly integrated Yardi environment to support enhancements, automation initiatives, and future system upgrades.
What Sets You Apart
You bring a CPA designation and at least 8 years of accounting experience, ideally in commercial real estate or a similar asset-based environment. You have demonstrated success leading teams and are recognized for your ability to mentor, coach, and develop others while maintaining strong reporting standards.
You possess a strong technical foundation in financial reporting, controls, and accounting principles, along with the ability to operate effectively in a structured, deadline-driven environment. You are a confident and professional communicator who can build relationships across teams and work effectively with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Experience working with Yardi or similar ERP systems is strongly preferred, especially in environments that use technology to drive efficiency and process improvement.
Why Join?
This opportunity lets you step into a leadership role on a growing, evolving real estate platform. You will join a stable, collaborative team with low turnover and a strong focus on mentorship and long-term career development.
The role provides exposure to both operational accounting and investor-facing reporting, along with the opportunity to play a key role in scaling the accounting function as the business continues to expand. You will be involved in acquisitions, portfolio growth, and third-party management initiatives, while working within a technology-forward environment that prioritizes system enhancements and continuous improvement.
