HealthPRO Canada is Canada’s group contracting provider for healthcare. We put decades of knowledge and the purchasing volumes of more than 2,000-member healthcare facilities across Canada to work.

Our members count on us to reduce the cost of high-quality products and services they use, improve patient safety, help maintain assurance of supply and pursue new ideas and innovations.

HealthPRO Canada provides a comprehensive salary and benefits package including enrollment in a competitive pension plan.

Job Description

Responsible for the end-to-end, hands-on management of HealthPRO Canada's Microsoft Azure cloud environment, on-premise servers, and IT infrastructure. The successful candidate will personally own the Azure tenant, fine-tune existing systems for performance and cost efficiency, architect and deploy every new cloud workload, and ensure the security, availability, and performance of all mission-critical systems. This is a hands-on technical role: the expectation is that this person is in the console, writing scripts, configuring resources, and solving problems directly - not delegating from a distance. This role also serves as the organization's subject-matter expert for cloud architecture, FinOps (cloud financial management), and the adoption of AI-powered infrastructure monitoring and automation.

Responsibilities

Azure Cloud Management & Optimization

  • Assume full ownership of HealthPRO's Microsoft Azure environment, including compute resources, storage tiers, networking, and security configurations.
  • Fine-tune and optimize existing Azure workloads for performance, reliability, and cost. Architect, build, and deploy all new cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Conduct ongoing Azure cost analysis and implement FinOps best practices, targeting measurable reductions in monthly Azure consumption.
  • Manage and optimize Dataverse capacity, including database, log, and file storage tiers. Lead the execution of the Hybrid CRM architecture strategy, implementing Virtual Tables backed by Azure SQL to reduce Dataverse storage costs.
  • Provision, monitor, and right-size Azure resources (VMs, App Services, Azure SQL, Data Lake Storage Gen2) to ensure cost-efficient operations aligned with business growth.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 and Azure licensing, ensuring optimal license allocation and compliance across the organization.
  • Provision and maintain the Azure infrastructure (Azure SQL, Data Lake Storage, compute resources) required by the data engineering team for their data pipelines and integration workloads.

AI-Driven Operations & Automation

  • Deploy and manage AI-powered monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Azure Monitor with AI anomaly detection, Microsoft Copilot for Security) to proactively identify infrastructure issues before they impact users.
  • Implement intelligent automation for routine infrastructure tasks such as patch management, backup verification, capacity forecasting, and incident triage using AI and scripting.
  • Evaluate and pilot emerging AI tools and services within the Microsoft ecosystem (Azure AI Services, Copilot integrations) to enhance IT operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering and analytics teams to support AI/ML workloads on Azure infrastructure, ensuring appropriate compute and storage provisioning.

Infrastructure, Security & Backup

  • Manage on-premise server hardware, virtual machines, operating systems, and network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi) across both cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Own the organization's cybersecurity posture for infrastructure: firewall administration, endpoint security, email security, OS/firmware patching, and vulnerability management.
  • Provide technical direction to the Cybersecurity Analyst, ensuring alignment between cloud security practices and enterprise-wide security policies.
  • Audit and test all existing backup and recovery processes. Develop and implement a comprehensive backup strategy designed to protect the organization from ransomware and other cyber threats, including air-gapped or immutable backups.
  • Ensure high availability of mission-critical systems and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans, conducting regular DR testing.
  • Manage Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), conditional access policies, MFA, and identity governance.

Vendor Support & Strategic Planning

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with technology vendors, ISPs, and Microsoft CSP/EA partners. Support the VP in contract and SLA negotiations by providing technical analysis and recommendations.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex infrastructure issues, coordinating with Microsoft Premier Support and other third parties as needed.
  • Develop and maintain IT infrastructure roadmaps aligned with the organization's Digital Intelligence Transformation strategy.
  • Prepare and manage the cloud infrastructure budget, providing regular reporting to the VP on spending trends, optimization opportunities, and capacity forecasts.
  • Contribute to IT governance policies, standards, and documentation.

Team Collaboration & Coverage

  • Work alongside the Manager, IT Service Desk & AI Enablement to ensure seamless escalation paths and infrastructure support for end users.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Delivery Manager and development teams on platform architecture decisions impacting Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and Business Central.
  • Work closely with the Cybersecurity Analyst on security monitoring, incident response, and threat mitigation.
  • Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule with the IT Service Desk Manager to ensure extended coverage for critical systems during mornings and evenings.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Microsoft Azure certifications required: AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) and AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect) or equivalent.
  • Additional certifications highly valued: AZ-500 (Azure Security Engineer), MS-700 (Teams Administrator), FinOps Certified Practitioner, AI-102 (Azure AI Engineer).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on IT infrastructure experience, with at least 3 years focused on Microsoft Azure administration, architecture, and deployment.
  • Proven track record of personally architecting, deploying, and maintaining Azure environments - not just overseeing them.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Azure cost optimization and FinOps practices, with measurable results in reducing cloud spend.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Dataverse/Power Platform environments.
  • Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments at scale (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune).
  • Strong background in cybersecurity: firewalls (SonicWall, Fortinet, or similar), endpoint detection and response, SIEM, and incident response.
  • Experience designing and testing backup and disaster recovery strategies, including ransomware resilience.
  • Experience with AI/ML infrastructure support or AI-powered IT operations tools is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare or the procurement/GPO sector is a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Azure (compute, storage, networking, security, cost management).
  • Advanced PowerShell and Azure CLI scripting for automation.
  • Strong understanding of networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, SD-WAN, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates).
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and AI-based anomaly detection.
  • Working knowledge of Dynamics 365 / Dataverse architecture and Virtual Tables.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure deployment.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to cost management and system performance.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, initiative, and ownership - a self-starter who takes action without waiting to be told.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to documentation and repeatable processes.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work arrangement (Oakville office and remote).
  • Rotating after-hours on-call schedule to ensure extended infrastructure coverage (mornings and evenings).
  • Occasional maintenance windows and incident response outside standard business hours.
  • Travel may be required occasionally.
