Job Description

About the Position

We are a private farm property in Frederick County seeking a reliable, self-directed part-time farm hand to help maintain our land on weekends. The primary focus is operating a skid steer (Case 430) with a brush hog/rotary cutter attachment to maintain two solar farm areas (approximately 14–16 acres combined) on a twice-monthly schedule, along with periodic heavy bush hogging of overgrown pasture and weed areas across the property. Additional light maintenance tasks will come up as needed.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys outdoor, hands-on work and takes pride in keeping a property in good shape. You’ll work independently with minimal supervision once trained on our expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate a Case 430 skid steer with rotary cutter/brush hog attachment to mow solar farm areas (approximately 14–16 acres) on a twice-monthly schedule
  • Perform annual or semi-annual heavy bush hogging of 40–45 acres of pasture and noxious weed areas
  • Maintain safe operating practices around solar panel arrays, including speed management and awareness of debris deflection
  • Perform basic maintenance checks on the skid steer and attachment before and after use (fluid levels, blade condition, hydraulic connections)
  • Report any equipment issues or property concerns to the property owner promptly

Secondary / As-Needed Tasks

  • Minor repairs and maintenance on well water lines and outdoor water spigots (replacing fittings, winterizing, addressing leaks)
  • General lawn and grounds upkeep as assigned — may include light trimming, debris cleanup, or fence line work
  • Other miscellaneous property maintenance tasks as they arise

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience operating a skid steer — must be comfortable with standard and attachment operation
  • Ability to work safely and independently on farm equipment with minimal supervision
  • Physically capable of performing outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Reliable — consistent weekend availability is essential; this is a routine maintenance role, not occasional
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with rotary cutters, brush hogs, or similar mowing attachments on a skid steer
  • Experience working on or around solar farm installations
  • Basic plumbing knowledge — well lines, outdoor spigots, poly pipe connections
  • Familiarity with common noxious weeds in the Frederick County area and appropriate management timing
  • References from prior farm, landscaping, or equipment operation work

Work Environment & Conditions

  • All outdoor work — terrain varies from flat solar farm ground to uneven pasture
  • Weekend-only schedule; hours flexible based on task needs and weather
  • Equipment and fuel provided; candidate must supply their own appropriate work attire and footwear
  • Work is on private property; reliable transportation to the site is required

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
