About this opportunity The Nunavut Department of Education, Kivalliq School Operations, is seeking a Guidance Counsellor who is committed to supporting strong learning environments for Nunavut’s students.

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Naujaat, Nunavut, Tuugaalik High School serves the local community. The school has a population of approximately 290 students in a 7-12 setting with a staff of 30. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A certificate/degree or equivalent coursework in counselling will be considered an asset.
- Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience
- Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in
Nunavut (International educated teachers who do not hold a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through
Pathways to Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not expected to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centred education are valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut (verbal and written)
- Experience teaching in a bilingual or ESL environment
- Experience teaching in cross-cultural, or northern-Canada contexts
- Experience supporting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
Teaching Practice and Classroom Environment
- Experience providing guidance to students on graduation requirements and course selection
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience using current assessment methods to guide learning
- Experience in creating a positive learning environment using
