  • Salary: $3,153.40 - $4,151.76 bi-weekly ($82,303 - $108,360/year)

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Compliance Manager and providing leadership as the most senior peer within the regional compliance team.
  • Coordinating the development and delivery of annual operational plans.
  • Leading provincially significant compliance undertakings.
  • Mentoring and coaching peers, ministry staff, and external stakeholders to ensure skill/knowledge transfer.
  • Performing duties of an Environmental Protection Officer (either as an inspector or investigator).
  • Executing compliance investigations or inspections and coordinating compliance activities within and outside the District as required.
  • Advise, educate, and provide leadership to staff within the compliance unit, and coaching of new and existing staff.
  • Lead compliance program enhancement initiatives and projects on behalf of the District compliance team.
  • Assist with the development of the operational plan to align District compliance activities with AEP’s cumulative effects management approach and system.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

This position requires a two-year college diploma in a directly related field (such as environmental management and compliance) plus at least 7 years’ experience in a technical compliance or enforcement role. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience on a 1:1 basis.

  • Excellent people skills and ability to build a strong team and functional work unit.
  • Strong understanding of the duties of an Environmental Protection Officer.
  • Communication, facilitation, conflict resolution, time‑management, and policy development skills.
  • Technical knowledge of compliance and enforcement activities, with a solid grasp of the natural and applied sciences required to collect and assess technical environmental information, identify emerging issues and trends, and assess risks to the environment, human health and the department.
  • Knowledge of ministry legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to compliance and human resources.
  • Capability in applying regulatory and non‑regulatory tools to implement regional plans or management frameworks.
  • Organizational knowledge and advisory skills for the development and implementation of the Provincial Compliance Assurance program.
  • Ability to function within a complex, diverse, and changing work environment, with emphasis on supporting transition to the province‑wide cumulative effects management system.
