A Utility Operator ensures the safe and efficient operation of critical plant systems, such as water treatment, HVAC, electricity, and gas. They monitor equipment, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot failures, and document performance metrics, often working with pumps, motors, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• System Monitoring: Monitor utility systems—chillers, boilers, air compressors, water treatment systems—to ensure continuous, safe operation.
• Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance, including lubricating parts, replacing filters/belts, and cleaning equipment.
• Troubleshooting: Identify, report, and repair mechanical or electrical malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime.
• Compliance & Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out procedures, proper chemical handling, and environmental regulations.
• Documentation: Record equipment readings, maintenance activities, and system issues in logs or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED; technical certification (ITI) in mechanical, electrical.
• Experience: Previous experience in industrial utility operation (e.g., HVAC, water treatment).
• Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of electrical systems, and ability to read technical manuals.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50–100 pounds occasionally), stand for long periods, and work in confined spaces.
• Competencies: Attention to detail, troubleshooting abilities, and good communication skills
